Last night around 8pm my 3 yr old daughter was sitting on the counter watching me get ready to test my blood. She looks up at me and asked if I could test her blood too. We have noticed that she gets really wired whenever she has sugar so I have been hoping for an opportunity to test her. I told her it would hurt a little bit when I pricked her finger and that it would bleed a bit. She said okay! I tested her, she didn't even flinch. The reading came in at 26.1, OH NO IMMINENT PANIC........ then my wife asked me, would the pickle juice on her fingers have affected the reading?
So we washed her hands really well and tested again, no fuss from her, she says, "I like my blood". This time the reading is 7.1 after a full evening of supper and ice cream, WHEW, feel much better.
Just thought I would share..

you know, this is really good to know. the other day when i got a 225 reading, i still had 'lemon cologne' on my hands!! i know because when i put my finger in my mouth to lick off the blood, it tasted like cologne!!
here in turkey, its very common to use a lemon cologne splash on your hands. it's a cultural thing...since they don't sell 'rubbing alcohol' folks use the cologne as an astringent...i had just used it on my face and MAYBE that's what it was all about...
at any rate...i'm still a novice here and i'm still learning. but i'm tickled pink about today's 'discovery'..
thank you thank you thank you!!

Steve, I had something very similar happen once when I tested my bf's son (8 yr. old). I tested him on a finger I felt wasn't artificially sweetened and got a reading somewhere in the low 300's. I asked him to wash his hands "really well" (while I mildly panicked). Second time around was in the 200's. We had a chat...
"When you washed your hands, how did you do it? Did you use soap?"
"No, I didn't use soap. I rinsed."
"So, you basically just smeared around the bits of jelly toast on your hands."
He's fine. :) lol
