forgive me, i forget who it was who suggested i NOT have carbos for breakfast anymore...what was it called -- 'dawn phenomenon'???

well, i know this is by no means an affirmation since i just tried it today for the first time...

BUT......

my fasting b/s level was 138 this morning (maybe because i had a rice stuffed pepper before going to bed last night...i was hungry!!) but for breakfast today, i only had carrot and cabbage salad (no dressing, just some lemon juice, fresh) some feta cheese, some turkish black olives and a tomato.
no bread, no crackers no carbos...

the +2 reading was 110.

then we had lunch out...it was delicious...lamb that had been roasted whole over an open pit (it's fairly common fare around these parts) served on a bed of rice (family-style...everyone took their own portions..we were three people)
yogurt and purslane, and i had some cold albanian liver..about 2 tablespoons with fresh sliced onions (again, something very common here)...i had a diet pepsi and one 1/2 of a slice of whole wheat bread...not sliced bread as we know it..homemade... i tested just before lunch, and my b/g was 106..
now, 2.5 hours later it's 109!!

if i keep up this way, my average levels for the day are going to be really good.

I thank you, whoever it was that sent me that clue about 'dawn phenomenon'.. i'm going to stick with this kind of eating for the next few days and see what happens.

my friends who were with me at lunch stopped on the way home for ice cream. honestly, i wasn't even tempted...i don't understand what 'switch' has
been turned off in my brain, but i'm not craving stuff like that these days..
i hope this continues..

i'm really pleased with what i've seen so far...it has given me a lot of hope
and confidence that i can avoid going on insulin in the immediate future...

it also tells me that while i really do like this new doctor, i think he doesn't know everything there is to know about diabetes...so you folks are an enormous support for me...and i thank you from the bottom of my heart...
:adore:
:dancing2:

am i pleased? you betcha!!

Congratulations on your progress I hope it keeps up for you.

I also found that as soon as my sugar went consistently below 7 (126) I lost my desire for sugar. As you say, just like something switched off. :) :trytofly:

Arlene,

It sounds like you are learning some powerful lessons from your testing-and-measuring. I am sure you will find that getting your morning blood sugars in line paves the way to achieving really good control. Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Mark
