I was at my Eye Doc's this week and he noticed a bit of cataract starting,
on my right eye. Sucks. Has anyone had cataracts?? What to expect would
be appreciated and how long does this surgery last for???? That's to be
expected I suspect, although my pharmacist did think I was Too young for
cataracts even though I am Diabetic that long and both my Parents had them.
Oiy!! That's Life!!. :)

Sorry, I put this in the wrong place.

OH joy...anyway it is not a big deal....surgery last about 30 mins, your not put to sleep, and within 3 hours you take your patch off and BOY the colors you can see.....off all the retina surgery I had....this one was like pulling off a bandaid once you have been in the pool with it for hours.

If you have specifics PM me....

They don't exactly know the relationship between cataracts and diabetes, and as far as I can tell, ANY link may be purely statistical rather than medical. I was diagnosed with them at the age of about 20, after about 7 years with diabetes, but the doctor thought they were NOT related to diabetes, but migh have been congenital--present at birth. As I aged, they were checked regularly, and in my late 30s or early 40s, began to affect my night vision. I had them operated on several years apart, as one was progressing much faster than the other. The difference in vision before and after was amazing, and the procedure is, well, if not a piece of cake, not that big a deal at all.

keep us posted,
Michael

Carlie,

I am 21 years old and I just finished my second cataract surgery. Along with what others have said, my doctor wasn't convinced it was brought on by diabetes either. I have only been a diabetic for 5 years. Anyway not to worry, the surgery is very easy. I was able to see better immediatly. The nice thing is, because they take out the lens in your eye and put in an implant, you will most likely be able to see almost perfect distance vision w/o correction (although you will need reading glasses for up close). The surgery is very painless. Good luck!

Hi Belinda, Mick and Amanda Jo !! Thanks Very much for your
responses and for Making My Day. You make cataracts sound like nothing,
which makes me hopeful(keeping in mind I did see most of the procedure
on a tv show and I must say, it made me ill :puke:). Don't like anyone
fooling around with my eyeballs. :) I suppose I've been hearing that Terrible Horrible complications were going to happen to me at an early age, since I was little, before I had a chance to even start life, so I figured, This must be the start of the end. So you's Greatly made me feel Better about it, I wasn't
sure what I was going to do, now I do. :) :afraid:
Mick and Amanda Jo that is remarkable that you's got them that young. I
would have been Very scared and depressed. I've never heard of that early.
I am glad you's are doing Good after you's had the surgery. :D
Thanks again to you's all. :)

I'm glad you're feeling better, Carlie. It really wasn't bad at all. It felt like it was over in two seconds! My mom had lasik done around the same time I had my cataract surgery...my vision is actaully better than hers (although she isn't as farsighted as I am).
