Is their a diffrence (health-wise) between drinking Diet pepsi (soooo much better then Diet Coke  ohh yeah..i said it!) and drinking water?

Sorry, but I like diet coke much better than diet pepsi, although I like regular pepsi better than regular coke. Go figger.

Anyway, is there a difference? Not to your records or counting, but the sodas have sodium in them, and depending on the sweetener, may have some other effects. Water is better for you.

I will admit that I've gotten around my habitual soda drinking somewhat by drinking mineral water. I get the fizz and the sodium, but not sweetener. I find that the stuff sweetened with aspartame/nutri-sweet gives me headaches, while too much Splenda causes stomach upset.

I prefer saccharin I think. Still waiting to hear what's wrong with that old cure, though.

Greg - It's your body, your life, and your choice. I often drink 2 or 3 in a day, too. It's the easiest cold drink to find these days.

However, you are adding sodium into your diet, you are adding a sweetener with odd consequences (Splenda = laxative; aspartame/nutrasweet = all kinds of theorized risks; saccharin = possible cancer risk) into your system, and you will be more thirsty. There's another thread on here somewhere saying that if you drink 2 or more diet sodas a day, your odds of being overweight go up strongly. I've heard, but never actually read nor seen, that aspartame gives you the same sugar craving result and calorie craving result as real sugar, so it isn't a good weight loss solution overall.

Are you happy with life as it is? If so, then you're fine. If you're not losing weight and feel sick, headache prone, or like you have some laxatives at work, then cut back. It's your body and your life.

You'll find websites that say diet sodas are killing you...You'll also find sites that say the same about milk, or even water nowadays, so.

My rule of thumb is every diet soda I consume I try to at least consume the same amount of water to flush it out. Does that make sense?

Also, T2 (Middle aged Man) hits on something--some people here will tell you diet drinks hose their sugars like pure sugar would, so be careful. TEST TEST TEST!

I need to cut down on my diet pepsi intake, as I drink between 8 and 12 cans a day :vroam:

I can do the same thing, with no problem at all. I love the stuff. Diet Coke is like watered air to me.

I drink 3 glasses of water or more a day and sometimes have a glass of Orange juice. I used to drink one 600 ml diet coke a day, but now thats every 1-2 weeks. I'll have the occasional coke or rasberry drink when low. Im proud of myself! :five:

For obvious reasons water is better than diet drinks but being a diabetic can be a bit limiting so the occasional glass of diet pepsi or others will do you no harm.
I hate it when people say to me "oh you shouldn't drink that diet drink just think of all the chemicals" I'm like "well, you're not dibetic and can drink anything you want so give me a break!!"

Everything in moderation...............

I agree with klpants, when you have diabetes there's not alot of choices for things to drink. Common sense says that water's the best but there's only so much I can stand. If I had other choices no, I wouldn't drink things with aspertame and the like but come on..some times there's just no way around it. I've heard that you have to ingest metric tons of the fake stuff to do any harm. So, drink, enjoy and there are bigger things to worry about. :ciao:

I have found, though, that I can drink more water if it's cold and clean. I live in Fairfax County, VA which has no reservoirs . . . we drink reconstituted river water. I added an undersink filter PLUS a Brita pitcher and thus double filter the water and keep it cold. I find it much easier to drink a lot of it now as a result.

I don't think any one else mentioned it but don't forget about the caffeine in a lot of the diet sodas.

In some people caffeine has a mild diuretic effect and as a result won't get the same hydration effect as one would from plain water. The studies on how caffeine effects glucose have been mixed but many recent studies seem to indicate it impairs glucose metabolism.

Some people also have problems with the acid and phosphorus content of some sodas.

That being said ... I'll put my vote in for diet pepsi, caffeine free of course.

Loved your response! I always joke that with so many studies telling us what causes cancer in lab rats, I think it's actually the labs causing the cancer.

Frankly I'm a diet doctor pepper or diet cherry coke fan. I enjoy the vanilla version. Just not a big lemon/lime fan. I do like the diet coke with splenda, but find too much splenda messes up digestion.

BTW, I've never gotten to know Richmond. Looks like a neat city from times I've driven through it. Someday . . . .

Cheerwine is also pretty good, and very sweet. However, I've only seen it in Loudoun County, VA.

I work with a lot of cops, by the way. They said their badges usually get them off from speeding from anyone except the VA State Police. Said stories abound that the VA State Police have even pulled over marked cruisers from other states that were escorting criminals.

Guess our guys have no sense of humor!

Yummmmmmmm I will also settle for Diet Pepsi Vanilla or Lime.

I bought a new 7-Up called 7-Up Plus with Cherry. It has 5g of carbs in the whole bottle but it tastes flat as heck. The also have this in Island Fruit but I have yet to try it.

They have a new flavor of 7-Up Plus? I agree the original lacked something...I thought maybe the taste was an effect of the "nutrients" they added.

You know what has me confused? The forty varieties of Diet Coke that are now available here in the states...There's Diet Coke, we all know what that is, sweetened with aspartame. There's Diet Coke with Splenda--Self explanatory, and not that bad of a drink. And now there's Coke Zero, sweetened with aspartame, and tastes just like Diet Coke. SO duck things "Zero" is "Diet", just a spin on marketing...But I've seen them side-by-side on the shelf at many stores. What gives?

I used to work in a grocery store and learned the games from the vendors and store itself. Marketing on TV and radio and print, etc., is to get you to have brand recognition. You like "Heinz" ketchup more than "Smith's" ketchup because the Heinz name means something to you. You've never tried either, but you have a preference and loyalty because you know the name.

Now you go to the store. The more prevalent the brand name on the shelves, the more it persuades you that it's the best choice. So, the more variations, the better.

Campbell's offered low salt versions of their soups, and tiny cans of soup.

Heinz actually offered their ketchup in various colors.

Cereals have tried special box fronts, sizes, and prizes hoping for more facings.

Flavors, colors, sizes, packaging all go to work to get more shelf space or facings for you see more of that brand's product and buy it. You don't see that with eggs or milk, where it's generally one supplier. You do see it with all the brand products.

So . . . we now have Mountain Dew, Code Red Mountain Dew, Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Code Red Mountain Dew, 12 oz cans, 2 litre bottles, 24 oz bottles . . . all trying to get you to see more of the same product on the shelves (and push the competitors, like Diet Rite or the store brand) down to a smaller facing and thus smaller competition.

I still think my all time favorite was the green, purple, and blue ketchups by Heinz, though. Talk about desperate!

Hiya duck~ I think Coke Zero has zero everything. Like zero sodium. When I looked at the back of the label (when I first saw it in the store) and compaired it with regular Diet Coke, that's about the only difference that I can remember. And I like the Diet Coke with Splenda, also. I think I'm in the minority here. I'm a Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke fan. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/party/party0049.gif Anti Pepsi. :ahhhhh:
