I have always encouraged my daughters to cook with me, so imagine my thrill when on Saturday, my three yr old asked if we could bake cookies together. She wanted some chocolate chip cookies. So we proceeded to make them just as the recipe directed. 2 cups of brown sugar, 1 cup of white sugar, 1 cup of butter. All things that I have been studiously avoiding for the last 6 months. Is there any way to make cookies without helping to lick the batter, or test the dough or make sure the cookies turned out okay. It was like asking an alcoholic to bartend. Picture me under the wagon, stuck to the wheels and being run over every time the wheeels turn.
I managed to hit a 14.9(260) that evening. Man did that feel awful.
I am back to my regular 5's and 6's now.
Just thought I would share.
Steve
BTW the cookies were wonderful and Sarah just loved the dough.

Sure there is Steve. I always rely on Duct tape and go 4-5xs around my head. That should definitely work ! ----LOL
It really is hard to stay away from freshly baked cookies, just the smell draws you in. I try to chew some gum while I bake and immediately after place the bowl under he faucet and turn on the water. I stick to eyeing the cookies, if they are semi golden, they r done. THey tend to finish up browning while they cool.

Thanks for sharing that story!
I cook a lot. I haven't stopped baking 'goodies' for my family because I can't have them. Most of the time, I won't even have a taste. But sometimes yes, it's tempting. Who can resist home made cookies??! I like your comparison : it's like asking an alcoholic to bartend! It's exactly that!! But feeling ill afterwards usually 'cures' me for a llllllong while.

Hi Steve; chocolate cookies are my kids favorites! And if I do say so myself, I make a wicked one. I just try not to make them too often because, like you I have no self control when it comes to my cookies.! I try and freese them as soon as possible and then forget about them but schools going to start soon and so the battle will begin in ernest...lots more snacks in the house. lol, maybe you can find a great diabetic cookie recipe so that you won't have to miss out on that special time.

here we go, i sometimes just switch the semisweet chocolate chips with sugar free really dark chocolate (or just put whatever you want) and these turn out goooood
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated artificial sweetener
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
1 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar substitute. Mix in water, vanilla, and egg. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Mix in the chocolate chips and pecans. Drop cookies by heaping teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks. These cookies freeze well.

I swear I never even licked my fingers last Christmas while my 2 daughters (ages 23 and 25) and I baked cookies, Ok I did dring a glass of Reuniti (and it was GOOD) my blood sugar shot into the 500's and I hurt all over the next day. I asked my doc if I could have absorbed the sugar through my skin and was promptly told that yes - but only the skin on my fingers as they made thier way to my mouth!!!
So if sugar can not be absorbed through the skin, then only the wine could have raised my blood sugar and I know for a fact that 1 glass will not affact me that way.
Congrats on the kids wanting to make cookies with you. You are creating memories that will be passed through the generations. My mom baked with her mom and loved it so she baked with me, no as adults my girls come home at holidays to bake with mom. Some day they too will bake with thier kids - maybe - if they every get bother to have any!!! hint hint girls!!!
