Hi everyone!
This morning I spent in the ER with heart palpitations!!
The minute the doc heard that I was diabetic, his eyebrows raised in an "aha" moment, and did heart X-Rays, and talked about stress tests. :hmmmm:
I told him that I had had a stress test a few years ago, as well as a heart scan showing 0% blockage. Then he started looking at other things as well.
I am to completely cut out ALL caffeine, as he thinks that might be the problem (the heart checked out perfectly, thank God!).
Has anyone here had any experience with caffeine and heart palpitations?
I don't drink coffee, have a Diet Coke maybe 3 times a week, but do drink a (not strong) hot tea probably 3 times per day. :tee:
But I thought tea was good for you and didn't have THAT much caffeine???
Help??

Tea can have varying amounts of caffeine, which brand are you drinking?

HERBAL teas are good for you and have no caffeine. Your regular Earl Grey can definitely have enough to set your ticker racing. Could this morning have been a panic attack? Are you under stress?

I get palpitations from too much caffeine. I also get them if I am dehydrated. It is a horrible feeling. The first time it happened and I couldn't stop them I went to the ER also. When I thought about what I had, caffeine wise, that day, it was A LOT.

Thanks everyone for answering.
I drink nothing but decaf ice tea, and no coffee or chocolate. However, 2-3 times a day I will have a cup of Twinings English Breakfast tea (which I make weak). Decaf hot tea just seems to not taste as good.
I also have in the last 2-3 weeks upped my Synthroid meds from 75mcg to 100mcg, which I always had in the past. The ER doc checked my thyroid and in was within "normal" range. It was around 27-2800 with 75mcg, now with the 100mcg it is 2400. So I think he thought that was not to blame.
He asked whether I took antihistimines. I said only Benadryl at night....no reaction from the doctor.
He did find out that I was anemic, and gave me a prescription for an iron supplement, which I thought you couldn't have after 50 because it's not good for your heart???
Also I found out that ANEMIA can cause palpitations!!!!
SHEESH!!! I am more confused than ever, and the "butterflies" are still in my chest!
Got any ideas anyone?
