am type 2, diet and exercise only. Saturday, 2 hours after eating my blood sugar was 230. For lunch I ate breakfast food: (yes, I did have breakfast that morning) 1 scrambled egg, 1/2 piece of fr. toast with nothing sweet on it, just margarine, (I can eat a ham & cheese sandwich with 2 slices of wheat bread without it raising my b. sugar) and 1 small bite of a sausage link. I had ice tea with Splenda. At the time I checked my blood sugar I was not feeling bad, but not long after that I started feeling, very hot & sweaty, weak & shaky and just felt funny. I checked my blood sugar (this was less than 30 minutes after being at 230) and it was 107. Since I am most of the time under pretty good control and a type 2 this really surprised me. How normal is it to drop that fast in that short of time with no meds?

Pretty normal if you have diabetes. Meds or not you have diabetes so your regulating control system has a tendancy to run amok once inawhile. Happens to all of us. :stupido:

it takes a while for the food to digest too so you could have just had a low while you body was processing the food that you just ate, has happened to me before, thats my theory on it anyways

I've noted two effects in myself.
If I do physical work my sugar can drop from 6mmole/l (108 mg/dl) to 4.5 (81) in about 30 minutes and I then can't carry on working. What I have to do, is to boost the sugar to about 9 (162) and then keep snacking about every two hours in order to keep it at about 6 (108).
This was no surprise really, because I have seen articles by Type 2 athletes and boosting their sugar before training or competition is how they manage.
What did surprise me was the other effect I've noticed - and my doctor can't comment whether it makes sense or not.
If my sugar is around 5 to 6 (90 to 108) and I eat a low glycemic index meal, then I feel bad for about 1 1/2 hours. If the meal is medium to high glycemic index, then I don't feel bad. These feelings are not reflected in a change in sugar levels - I can't see much change. My theory is that my stomach is taking a larger share of the sugar in order to digest the meal and my brain is suffering. My doctor said it might be a blood pressure change because for everybody, blood goes to the stomach to aid digestion - but my blood pressure stays the same.
Aren't we a strange lot! :questionm :questionm :heeeellll

this is certainly a strange disease. i don't think i've seen two people here with exactly the same symptoms or similar solutions!
guess we all need to become our own 'best friends' and...although common sense says we shouldn't..i think we need to become our own physicians...
up to a point..

My doctor said rapid drops in BG are due to an overreaction by the liver. When your BG goes up your liver can release a flood of enzymes, causing the BG to drop. He also said the full explanation was too complex to go into, but that's it in a nutshell.
