Well, I said I would report back when I had my three monthly test results.

You may recall that we have our own chooks (hens for you guys in the Northern hemisphere, is that right Arlenecarol?) and that they are free range most of the time (at least 50% of their day). I am feeding them Coprice pellets which are rice based and which contain fish meal and a lesser percentage of meatmeal than normal pellets. They do not have any antibiotics added.

I have just returned from my doctor. My cholesterol readings have not changed from the last reading (4.5 he says we must get down to below 4) BUT the bad cholesterol has halved and the good cholesterol has doubled, so I feel that I can continue to eat my eggs and not worry about them affecting my cholesterol!

The doctor did say that he has had an interest in eggs and cholesterol and also having Physillum and lecithin. He has come to the conclusion that the lecithin does not help the cholesterol all that much, that Physillum may help and that eggs do not deserve their bad reputation. He feels that they are highly nutritious, although he did say that he would not recommend having them every morning for breakfast as I was contemplating.

HTH you guys.

Lesley

hi Leslie,

thanks for getting back with this...
i too think that eggs are getting a bad rap...however, considering the stuff that is fed to commercial hens, i'm not so sure it's even SAFE to eat more than one a week! LOL!!

I eat eggs from our free-ranging hens 'normally'...sometimes two a day, sometimes 6 a week...sometimes none at all per week. in Oct i'll get retested for A1c and at the same time, i'll request a cholesterol test again too.

i have been able to 'stablize' my B/G levels recently and my blood pressure is also good...so i'm pretty happy about all this.

since our eggs are really 'natural' - ie the only thing they eat besides the natural stuff they catch while wandering around the village is wheat that we buy and feed them to suppliment the bugs, etc. since there's nothing in the village that can harm them (or the sheep and donkeys that wander freely), i am not very worried about the eggs...for now anyway.

keep up the good work Leslie and stay in touch...i want to hear more about this..
