I'm newly diagnosed Type 2. 53 years old. I take 500mg of Metformin, Zoca and Capoten for my Kidneys.

I blood test only once in morning and range frpm 105 to 122, sometimes spike to 135-145 when I've been a bad boy.

So far my doctor is happy with my wieght and blood test records, but he put me on Capoten for my microalbumin levels.

Normal is >2 and I was 6. The meds pushed me down to 4-5.

From what I read, I guess I had Kidney damage.

Any tips? Is 4-5 high or just alarming? I'm not exercising..I think I should.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Just looked at my old lab results and see from two different labs normal ranges for Albumin go from 3.5 tp 5.5 and 3.5 to 5. So it depends which lab your having the blood work done at. Always ask for copies of your lab work and you will see what's listed as the normal range for that lab.

Your only testing your blood glucose in the morning? Not good! For Type 2 on oral meds the standard is pretty much four times a day three days a week. Mornings before breakfast and two hours after the start of your meals would make more sense. Many people suffer from DAWN PHENOMENON which is nothing more than the liver releasing glucose to fire the body for waking up. This is what your checking for testing in the mornings before breakfast and should be under say 120. Testing two hours after meals checks for how well your body is handling the glucose after meals and should be under 140. By only testing in the mornings your ignoring half of your control over this desease and it can get you in real trouble as in kidney problems. My suggestion would be since you have evidence of kidney problems ASK/ DEMAND, if you have to to get a reference to an Endocronologist the specializes in Diabetes and preferably one that has a CDE an a nurse assistance.

Good Luck and WELCOME to the FORUMS! Harold

Now this is what I hoped to get from a forum....help.

My wife wants me to see a specialist. My sister, who is a RN, wants me to see a specialist.

So I'll see a specialist. :tee:

Thanks, Bill
