One of my weaknesses are hot wings. The hotter the better. And while wings generally are low carb (unless you get something like honey bbq or teriyaki, which I don't; give me chile sauces!), I know that the fat from frying them can be a problem, especially when they are breaded.

I heard on a radio program once that deep fried turkeys actually are not too bad in terms of the fat from frying because they are not breaded and the outside is seared by the grease creating a block to its absorption.

So, I'm wondering about your thoughts on how bad "naked" (no breading) wings would be even if fried.

One restaurant (Wing Zone (http://www.wingzone.com)) provides information on the carb counts of their wings (http://wingzone.com/pdfs/wz_carbs.pdf), but I didn't see anything on fat content.

Of course, I know that wings can be baked ... or, better yet, sauces could be applied to baked boneless/skinless chicken breast meat.

But, you know, that really isn't the same as my favorite wings at a local joint.

Ed, I can't really comment about the carb content/preparation of wings, but I have noted that if I eat a lot of chicken or beef, hours later (3, 4, 5, etc.) my sugars TAKE OFF and Houston we have a problem...I guess it's from the protein breaking down in my system. But I seem to have less of problem with pork, for whatever reason.

Also, whatever you end up doing about this issue, test test test after you eat so you can get an idea, or a "profile" of how such foods affect you. I'd say three times to get a real good idea, which gives you an excuse to eat Nuclear Hot Wings again and again. :)

How'd you guess "nuclear" is the flavor of choice? :whistling

I've not had Hooters naked wings. The ones I have had and really do like are the "Insane" wings at Zaxbys. :adore:

I'm drooling thinking about it.

Mmmmmm...Hooters...Wings. :1eye:

My wife won't let me go there. But one of the guys from work brought back dozens and dozens a few months ago, and I ate probably all of them. My sugars were fine for about three hours, and then the whole "We have lift off!" syndrome occurred, so that's what I base my experience on.

I have never heard of Zaxbys, I am sure there is not one here in the Metro DC area...but if there is, I will make an effort to sample their wings.

Now you guys have me considering trying to whip up my own wings. MMMMMMMMM...My dad actually has a number of decent recipes he used to make. Actually, the best one he made was NOT spicy, I can't remember the (non-hot) spices he did use, but the wings were sweet and tangy...Then, if you dunked them for 15-20 seconds in Tabasco Sauce--Woohoo!

Eh....Hooter's wings are horrid....lol...BUT, I AM a Buffalonian AND we DO have a pizzeria AND we serve wings, so maybe I am biased...but the hooter's wings are so...small and WAY too saucey and not hot enough.
Eri does good w/ her readings after eating wings...the REAL Buffalo wings...although, she eats them plain and dipped in the hot sauce, so that may have something to do with it.
Then again...I'm praying she doesn't get into the BBQ or Honey mustard sauces, she DOES love the chivetta's...but I catch her pretty quickly and the crew all knows to watch her(she knows herself, but, they usually smell so good :) )

What's "chivettas"?

(I'm not a "buffalonian, true or otherwise!)

The most wonderful barbeque sauce in the world. Not really traditional, most seasoning. It's very good stuff. Kind of a hard taste for me to describe, since I've eaten it my whole life.

It is sorta hard to describe, isn't it? It has a vinegary taste...and, hmmm, it's just AWESOME!!! :) Especially made like traditional wings and then charbroiled in the oven...oh SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yum!!!!!!

I'm of the belief that "the hotter, the better" but it's all in what your system can tolerate. :five:

I'm not wild about Hooters' wings, but love the ones we make with Franks' Hot Wing Sauce. (Duck, we learned that reputation from Kilroy's restaurant . . . link below . . . just off the beltway at Braddock.)

However, I'd love to try any other great wing sauces. Any suggestions? I've gotta look up this chain you're discussing, too!

Frank's hot sauce is really good :)
We also have a garlic/parmesean mix we make and, of course, honey bbq hot is good...there's this one insanity sauce that is SUPER hot...oh boy, makes you sweat by just smelling it!!!

If you like hot...should try some of our hot peppers...now those are YUMMY!!!(Especially on an Italian sausage sub...I know, carbs, but even just mixed in w/ Italian sausage....yummy!!!)
