Cranial nerve VI problem in left eye

Just went to get a complete eye checkup all ok but I have been having problems with my left eye as it will not turn to the left. Up, down, and right are all ok. Have had D type 2 for 1.5 years and it is well under control [last A1c 6.0]. Have been recommended to go to a Neurologist. 1. Any one had this condition? 2. Was told possible cause is D. 3. Also told it will most likely go away by itself. What will the Neurologist look for? Any special tests?

I've never heard of this, so I am not going to be of that much use. However, I think the fact that you have been told that it will probably go away on it's own is very positive.

Have you had any lessions in your head? Falls, accidents or the like? Sounds more like a somatosensory issue. A neurologist will probably do some functional assesment. BTW, is it in only one eye?

No falls, lesions, or accidents. It is only in my left eye. Some days it is bothersome and some days I don't even know the problem is there.

Hi Steve.
Did your doctor suggest any reason why it is just your left eye that is affected? The cranial nerve VI is the abducens, which innervates a muscle called the lateral rectus, which moves your eye laterally, or out to the side (to the left for your left eye) There are two of them, so I guess it could just be the one supplying your left eye that is damaged in some way. How it could have got damaged I really dont know.. Do you find that your left eye turns toward the center when you are resting? Because that is another thing that commonly happens if the nerve isn't working properly. Probably the first thing the neurologist would do, if your doctor hasnt already is test your cranial nerves by a few different simple tests, like getting you to follow an object with your eyes, seeing if you can poke your tongue out normally, etc. You can find more info about this by doing a search for 'cranial nerve testing' on google or something.
