I started on Actos today and I also take amaryl for glucose control. Some of the side effects seem to be edema (fluid retention) and weight gain. I hesitate because of these side effects and other possible side effects. Has anyone here taken Actos , or are you familiar with it? Any comments would be appreciated. This is my first post on this forum. I think it is similar to Avandia.

No one can tell you how it will affect you. These side effects supposedly occur in a small percentage of the prople taking them. Only by taking it will you find out. While it's normal for men and women to retain water at times it should be noted if it becomes excessive and call your doctor. I take Avandia, same family.

Funny you posted this as I've been meaning to ask if anyone else was taking Actos. I take 30 mg a day and have for probably 10 years. Before that I was taking Rezulin.

I didn't notice any weight gain when I made the change, and I have no side effects that I'm aware of.

As I said, been taking it for 10 years and I felt my diabetes was under control. Even though my blood sugar is 111 and A1C 6.0, I still feel it's not fully under control. I'm noticing little things, like it is taking longer and longer for cuts to heal. I recently had an infection under a thumbnail out of the blue.

I think I need to tighten up a bit.

Thanks for the reply Pam. I didn't know Actos had been available for that long. What you said about side effects is encouraging.

Well, maybe it's been 8 years lol, but it's been a long, long time .... when Rezulin was pulled by the FDA that's what the doctor gave me instead.
