Grrr I posted this on to the other forum and it was only me and a guest there. This is soooo confusing, but here goes again

I was just reading up on the lawsuit that people have filed against the drug Zyprexa stating it has caused high blood glucose levels and in some cases caused actual diabetes. The settlement of 690 million was approved.

What makes me angry is some of these people (I read on a forum) are complaining about how $100,000 isn't enough money but yet we don't get paid for our disease. I know they never planned on getting it but why should some one get a million dollars because they are now diabetic. This makes me furious!

Here are a few posts:

I just read that Eli Lilly has entered into a settlement of 690 million but claims that there at least 8000 claiments..............

I realize that some of us have more severe cases of diabetes than others so it would make sense to give them more money than to others.

If divided evenly it is less than 100 thousand dollars each, after fees etc this would bring the value of the settlement to less than 50 thousand each.

What about ongoing medical care and related expenses?

I think a life long disease and all the complications related to it is worth more than 50 grand.

While I am happy to see something happen with this case I'm not happy about the amount.................

Call me greedy but I want more and I want life long medical coverage for this disease and all related complications and all medications and all lab work, etc....................

Since my diabetic condition is not as severe as some others I am sure if I take the settlement that my cut would much less than the estimated 50 grand....................

I am not sure I agree to a settlement at this stage.

Is there more to it than just 690 million to be slit up between 8000 persons?

Diabetes is a life long disease with devastating complications, kidney failure, blindness, heart failure, amputation of feet and legs..........death.

I see my doctor every three months at $100 bucks a crack, lab tests every six weeks at $300 bucks a crack and medications that equal nearly $100 per months...........all of this is my share after insurance.

I feel Eli Lilly should pay all past and future medical expenses related to this nightmare and in addition a much bigger chunk of change for ruining my entire life forever....................

if that warning about "may cause diabetes" been in place I would never had taken the stupid drug!

I manage my disease with diet and exersise and be cause I was able to sucessfully do that I stand to gain a much smaller chunk of change than someone who is not able to control their disease. What about y future, what about the day that I have to take insulin or the day my kidneys finially quite( I am splilling protien in my urin now and am now taking yet another medication)

Some of these people suffered only high sugars when taking the drug but once they got off they had no more complications. We live with this everyday. I guess I'm just confused as to why someone should win the lottery because they now have diabetes.

ya know i was totally freaking last night over the cost of diabetes myself. i had just got my hospital bill. just found out i owe my hospital 15,000 dollars. after realizeing how this disease has completely bent me over and done me from the rear(poof out of nowhere too) i wonder what the statistics for insulin-related suicides look like.

Those who were given Zyprexa were never told diabetes was a risk factor. I'm kind of thinking many wouldn't have opted to take the med had they known.

I'm not a participant in the lawsuit, but I took Zyprexa 5 years ago. Didn't get diabetes until 2003, so I'm sure it's not related. Had I known diabetes was a risk factor, I'd never have taken it.

My diabetes wasn't brought on by anything but genetics. Can't be mad about that. It's just life. Had it been brought on by a drug that I didn't know had a diabetes risk... yeah... I'd be a bit irked, to say the least.

All drugs have risks. Therefore I don't see why anyone should be able to sue over any of them. People that say they won't take a drug because of a risk is true and not. Depends on the person. Thousands of drugs say they can produce heart attacks, yet their are thousands of people still using them. I'd much rather develop something like diabetes than a heart attack.
