Went to see my ENdo this morning and I got my A1c... 5.2!!!
I feel good about this. One thing I was confuesed about was my BUN/ creatinine level.
This is what I got :

BUN: 37
Creatinine: 0.8
BUN/ Creatinine ration: 46

These readings are high and my endo told me that I was fasting and had NO liquid in me and that is why it was a high reading. It seems a bit too high and didnt make too much sense. He said I should concentrate on my creatinine level of 0.8 that was great. Im not convinced and worried.... any ideas?

I am going through the same thing. My Creatine is 1.5 (which is supposedly normal for men my age and my build) and my bun is a little high (24 i believe). Did he test for micro-Albumin in your urine? Dehydration wihtout a doubt will cause a rise in creatine and BUN levels.

He is right on the money imo though. Creatine is the biggest marker for measuring kidney function, and your's is awesome.

Your creatinine is good at a 0.8 considering the reference range is 0.4-1.5 mg. Now the norm for a BUN is 8-25 mg which at a 37 you are high. I think you mentioned before that you thought you might have some kidney problems or am I wrong? High creatinine levels can sometimes be associated with impaired renal function, chronic glomerulonephritis, acute renal failure and unrinary tract obstruction. If you are worried and feel it is not due to fasting then request another test this time not fasting and compare results. If the results are the same then you need to insist on your DR doing more tests and find the reason behind the elevated levels.

I'd request a repeat test, especially if your in doubt of the results.
But, CONGRATULATIONS ON THE A1C. That's awesome:congrats:

The Albumin is good : 4.2
Yes I know I have not been drinking the correct amount of water for the body. I did go back and asked for him to see me again, which he did and he took me into another room again and told me since I was fasting this can do it. I was just worried.

Cam;
I didnt have a kidney problem, thank god.

Know how the worries go. My kidneys shut down and was on dialysis for four months when I was 14. It was not from diabetes, but by the grace of god they returned functioning. My Albumin is way up there, but soon as I return to my original dose of my ACE inhibitor it should correct (some nephrologist claim ACE I's just slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy, ADA funded article states diabetic nephropathy can be reversible with them) my mAlbumin problem.

You should get it tested again for sure. Some ACE inhibitors can raise K+ and BUN levels, and sometimes a lower dose is appropiate. Sounds like your doc knows what he is talking about though imo.

I have not started my ACE inhibitors yet. The range for the Albumin is 3.5-5.5.
