I already posted this, but in the wrong thread!

Hi my name is Mike I am new, one of the members gave me the link to this site! Thanks Mark! i was diagnosed on 11/08/2005 with an A1C of 11 and a blood sugar level of 274.. which i thought was horrible, but found out that others have had a lot higher! it scared me pretty good, i found the ADA site and got a lot of information right away, cut out as many carbs as i could til i got back to the doctor! i take 1500mg metformin, and this week i add 500 more for a total of 2000mg, i started walking right away, for 40 min a day, and try to ride my bicycle a couple of times a week. But it has been cold up here in Washington. I lost 23 pounds the first month, went down from an approx 4000 calorie to an 1800 calorie a day diet, try to keep my carbs under 200 per day, i am fortunate as my sugars came down pretty fast, i am averaging 101, 2 hours after meals, of course they are higher at times, but that is the average, i have a goal of 180 pounds, but will probably come off pretty slow, i have already leveled out a little bit, i was loosing an average of almost a pound a day, but now it is just a couple of pounds a week, and i had a small baked potatoe with dinner tonight and did not spike!!!

Hi Mike and welcome. You certainly have done extremely well at taking control - keep it up. I wish you every success. I am most impressed with your weight loss - I find the weight control side of this condition more difficult to achieve than the sugar control.

:proud: You should be proud. You really hopped in there and took over your health. Good job!! I read your posting on Tom's posting. Us Washingtonians are coming in droves.
I hope you'll share with us often. Do't be afraid to ask any question. I didn't at first, because I felt like I had such Mickey Mouse questions. But then someone else would ask the same question. There is always someone there that needs to know what you know. We have MUCH KNOWLEDGE on the site. What someone doesn't know someone else does. It is absolutely wonderful!! We also have fun--check the Chit chat site. That is exactly what it is. I haven't joined the chat room but have heard that is good too.

What I am trying to say--hope you get as much help out of the site as I have. :five:

Thanks i do feel good! but i also know things can change quickly! it scared me pretty good! The real test is Jan 1st, to stop smoking after 30 years... before i could always rely on food to help get me through it! the doctor did give me a perscription for zyban.. hopefully it will work... I love Eastern Washington, used to go over every weekend during the summer, now it ends up being about once a year.. it was my hope to retire over there... in 10 years, but i dont think grandma wants too move that far away from the grandkids! oh well i probably dont either!

Mike, after 25yrs of smoking, I stopped on 112105. Used Welbutrin. The first couple of days, I didn't even like me. Things are better now. Diabetes has enough complications, why add more. I thought I felt good after I got my bs under control, not smoking and having my bs under control is 100% bettter. It's worth the battle to quit. Good luck to you
