I was just wondering if anybody else is using Symlin? If so are you getting good results? have you lost any weight? I know alot of questions. I have been taking it since June and I am not real sure if I am benefitting from it. I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks, Amy

Hi AmyJean,
I have an aunt that lives in Grand Junction.
Well, I was not going to post yet, as I have only been using it about 2 weeks. I haven't even titrated up to the 10 unit level. I am Type 1 on a pump and using Novolog.
However, thus far, it has been the "miracle" I have been looking for. I am taking it specifically to smooth out a morning resistance I seem to have. My BS spikes pretty high after breakfast and then crashes about 10 or 10:30. So far for me, it has been GREAT. It smooths my mornings out and I have not gone over 130 in the mornings after breakfast or had the dramatic drop later in the morning. I hope that it continues to work this way for as long as I take it; if it does, I would be thrilled.
My weight has been steady since starting, however I am not trying to loose and it has only been about 2 weeks. So I don't have any insight there, sorry.

This is interesting. I have a similar problem with a strong rise in blood sugars in the morning. If I understand it correctly, Symlin limits the production of hepatic glucose by inhibiting glucagon production. And I can see how it can help control the DP surge.
I haven't tried Symlin yet because it isn't available in this part of the world yet. But I have started using Metformin, which has a similar effect. It is still early days, but there appears to be a significant benefit. I am having to get used to lower insulin/carb and correction ratios.
Cheers,
Mark

It only happens for my morning meal. If I eat a late breakfast (say after about 8:30 or 9:00 AM) then I don't have the problem and I don't need to take Symlin; I use my normal I:C ratio.
My Endo mentioned perhaps going to one of the pills, but thought the Symlin would be a better choice to try first. He said if that didn't work, then we would investigate other options.

I am able to take less insulin since I have started taking it. I feel sick to my stomach only after my morning shot of symlin. I still have the ups and downs with my sugars though. my A1c is 9.1 and really want it to come down. I haven't been able to workout because I was having trouble with my toe. I had surgery on it today so I am hoping to heal fast so I can go back to working out.

My appointment is coming up in mid-January...I'm planning on asking my doctor about it. Even though I hate injections, I would like to give it a try and see what happens. I'm hoping this new doctor will be more receptive to it than my last one. I think it's worth a shot :nurse: (no pun intended).
Keep us posted with how it goes. :)

I have 2 bottles of it sitting in my fridge right now,.. have not started it tho,... I am on vacation starting this thursday for 2 weeks, and I am waiting, I hear about the side effects, and figured I'd wait till I was going to me home for 2 weeks before I started it... I'm hoping it work well for me also....

I have been on a control mission for the last few months, and have been doing great but not without sacrificing and limiting food options dramatically. The problem for me has been post-meal spikes in general.
I went in to my endo with this issue earlier in December, then later met with a CDE to brief on the use of Symlin in my regimen. So far, it has worked well to expand my food choices while also controlling the spikes. I have been on it a little more than 2 weeks and just moved up to 3/4 of a full T1 dose today.
