Beside from feeling like I've gained a bunch of weight, I did pretty well & kept the sugars in check. I did ok today (despite having a high sugar overnight - it was quite high, 315 ....but, it was due to shutting my pump for too long to help bring up a low):

5:22AM - 180
8:20 AM - 52 (probably overcorrected the 315...snacked a little - drank some Sierra Mist & ate 1/2 a mini cinnamon roll)
10:20 AM - 119
1:37 PM - 126, 3.05u for 43grams Carbs (ate some pasta, ham & string beans)
2:00 PM - 145
3:00 PM - 139
4:30 PM - 119, 2.75u for 37grams Carbs (ate dessert)
6:00 PM - 164

Overall, not too bad, I guess (beside from the 315).

Oh come on now, if you ate half of a mini cinnamon roll there will be nothing left to eat! :proud:

Actually, my sugars last night were real naughty. I tested around 7 pm and came up with a HI  We all know what that means 500+. I immediately bolused and checked my sugars every 10 minutes and I went to bed at 169. I woke up this morning with a 255 fasting. Other than that they did fairly well today with the highest being 111 2 hours after meal.

What was funny about lastnight's reading is usually I get real sick even if I was in the low 200's but I felt great lastnight. I was unsure of the 500+ so I decided to test in a different spot for the first time which was my arm. I actually liked it a whole lot better then my fingers and I can't believe I have waited this long to give it a try.

Mine were not the best! :thumpdown...I basicallly was on a rollercoaster all day with these readings, so I'm not thrilled :frown:, but I guess I'm not surprised either. I always have problems with my control during special occasions, and I was very well behaved (food wise). Oh well. Hopefully, tomorrow will bring better blood sugar levels

Mine were not the best! :dito: Mine have been awful for several days, running in the 300s no matter what I do, but I think I'm fighting a stomach bug too. Didn't stop me from seriously indulging today though. Yeah, I'm an idiot, but it's the holidays :o

I hope everyone celebrating, (and not celebrating), has enjoyed a very merry Christmas, and are enjoying the entire holiday season. Last week I was here, panicky about my over 500 reading. That was a week ago Friday, PM. Felt quite lousy until Wednesday PM, although the levels were going down. I went to my Dr. on Tues AM, and spoke with him about taking me off of the Novalog 70/30 mix. He said that he felt it best for me to stay on it until I can tolerate the Metformin, (I'm now at 500 in AM, and 500 PM), and am able to up the dosage to 1000 AM, and 1000 PM. He said that he doesn't think I'll have to stay on the insulin.???????????????????????????????????? So, since Wed., my levels have gone done. I don't remember when I was ever this low!!!!! About 10 minutes ago, I was at 83. It's 11:00 PM here now. Before dinner I was 126, before lunch I was 98, and felt yucky. My AM fasting reading was 187. I've been on 14 U of Novalog AM and 14 U :wink:PM, since Tuesday PM. Since last weekend I have eaten a few pieces of bread....nothing between meals....minimal sized portions, except for today. My carbs have been in the form of vegetables, and salad, (duh...salad is vegetables too!!!). I ate a lot of fat today...prime rib, butter....not a bite of bread! I'm wondering if this is good or if I am "under doing it"???????????????? So last week, I was stressing over HypERglycemia....now I'm concerned with hyPOglycemia! I go back to the doctor this coming Tuesday. Anyway, my not eating the wrong things this Christmas, is not due to my great willpower.....the fact is...I'm scared to death of my bs going up so high again! I'm so glad I found this wonderful site! Where else would anyone care how peoples blood sugars are during the holidays!!!??? Nancy

Mine were all over the place. But they started out the weekend bad by me spending Friday evening with the girlfriend, bolusing for disconnecting for a hour to well, you know with the girl (no sex), then actually falling asleep with her for 3 hours. But here are my numbers...

12/23 - 15:34 - 194
12/24 - 02:22 - 110 (didn't know I went that long without testing)
12/24 - 03:28 - 301
12/24 - 08:55 - 169
12/24 - 11:18 - 55
12/24 - 15:55 - 289
12/24 - 18:20 - 287
12/24 - 20:52 - 254 (I now decide to change my infusion set)
12/25 - 00:15 - 223
12/25 - 01:39 - 190
12/25 - 04:45 - 53
12/25 - 08:28 - 143
12/25 - 11:29 - 71
12/25 - 17:49 - 346
12/25 - 21:16 - 95
12/25 - 22:42 - 95
12/26 - 02:22 - 59

I know I have a problem around dinnertime every day. I'm not sure why yet, but it has something to do with my afternoon snack. It appears if I eat one that I may need a more harsher insulin to carb ratio. But I also need to get my basal rate straightened out some. It's one of my goals for the new year. That and trying to lose about 20 pounds.

Wow Dewey, great job!

Thomas was out of control!! I don't think he ever went below 200 exept bedtime when he was 199. I think I started it though, before dinner I set an extended bolus for 3 hours while he was "grazing" on cookies and stuff. After an hour or so he was around 380:embarasse . He stayed in the 300's through dinner. He had a good time though.

He woke up at 255 and decided to change his site.

I thought I was pretty good the last couple of days, though I ate a few pieces of dark chocolate and one largish serving of potato salad. My levels have not been high at all, except this morning and it is 229. I will work on it today and hope I can get back on track.

9am 66 (ate bowl Frosted Flakes w/ no bolus)
2pm 205 (only took 1 unit for a piece of cake needed to take a unit more)
4:45pm 90 (good thing I didnt take the .3 more of correcting)
8:45pm 258 (dont know why i only put in 30 carbs at dinner it was more like 60 oh well you live and learn)

This am I'm 83 <--now that i got my overnight basal to drop from 1.10 to 1.0 so I wont be 55-70 when I wake in the morning. More safe now!!!

Have no IDEA! Did not test all weekend. My normal routine 3 days a week 4 times a day I've been doing on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Did not feel unusually weird over the weekend and did not feel it was necessary. Woke up this morning with an 84 which is 20 points below normal for me. The only dessert over the weekend was a small piece of pumpkin pie and a couple, okay three, bites of pecan pie Sunday.

my sugars did'nt go past 118 on xmas day even though i did have a glass of eggnog, usually i don't much care for eggnog but i tried a new kind and it was so good,i also had put a dash of butterscotch schnapps in for the others on xmas eve so then it tasted even better. but that was all i did that was bad,i made a chocolate pudding pie for my daughter and a homemade apple pie thing i make for my mom and i did'nt eat any of it except just a sample to make sure the cinnamon amount was right. i do feel like i've gained a lb,my pants feel tight today, but my exercise routine was put on the back burner due to sick kids and xmas.

6.7 mmol/L on Christmas morning, after celebrating too much on Christmas Eve. I just couldn't believe it! :)

I never went higher than 7.9 mmol/L until yesterday. I'm sick. Coughed all night. My voice has gone. BG has started to go up the curtains.

Xmas Day up until about 9pm-ish, I was around 7mmol/l throughout. Then it got a bit silly - went over 10mmol/l by midnight as the nibbles started to get properly digested. Woke up with a bg of 9.2, and then Boxing Day was ok again until about 8pm, when I tested and found I was running at 18.1! That's cuz I got caught out by the reappearance of mystery sweets.

Bolused as if I was about to eat a whole meal (15u Novarapid!) and I was still in the 10s at midnight. Woke up with a 10.3 this morning but now I'm back on track.

Hi first time poster here!

I just switched from Actrapid (disconntinued since October here) and Insulatard to Novorapid and Levemir. Talk about bad timing, I saw my consultant on Dec 21 and switched over on 23rd .:embarasse : I did'nt change my doseage as I was hopping for a straight switch.

On December 24th I woke to high reading so suspected I'd have to increase the Basel intake so went to 34 units

On Christmas day readings were a mixed bag, good in the earlier part of the day but tending to rise I was reading about 13mmol/L at bedtime. Same happened on the 26th so I have jacked up the Levemir to 44 from 34.

I'm still not entirly happy with the way things are panning out, I'm wondering if I should take the novorapid after I eat rather than before as I seem to be getting high readings 3-4 hours after eating. With Novorapids shorter period of useful activity maybe I'm not getting the "suger curve" and the "insulin curve" to coincide. Still I'm going OT from Xmas so I'll stop but any feedback much appricated. :)

Mike.

I didn't do bad, but I'm still fighting a weight gain over Thanksgiving. I went to a party of Phillipino food on the 23rd. I haven't eaten much of that type, It had a lot of pasta which usually skyrockets me. I figured I'd done myself in but went to bed at 142 and woke at 98. The pasta used was mostly rice noodles. On Christmas Eve I had Prime rib at my sons in-laws. Green salad, rice and a tablespoon of twice baked potatoes. Dessert was a sugar free mousse. And Christmas Day a ham dinner at my daughters. No dessert. I think I left out the chocolates at everyones house and homemade rocky road fudge that I swore I wouldn't make, but did.
But all in all I felt in control. then I brought grandkids home with me for a week so have run off a lot of what I ate. LIFE IS GOOD!!

The marvels of glucose monitoring.

I wish my grandfather, who was a brittle Type 2 on insulin, had had the benefit of a home glucose monitor when he was alive.

Some people also find that they need to take significantly more Levemir than they previously anticipated. I was was one of the first in the UK to go onto Levemir (from Insulatard) and I found that even with triple the dose I was still having to bolus every couple of hours or so. It got ridiculous so I'm back on the Insulatard now.

... I don't know about you guys but since Christmas it seems I have gone off food. It will be New Year's Eve 7 and :bawling: I had enough of the high calorie high fat high sugar stuff already. I can honestly say that all those things I usually keep away from are simply overrated.

BG between 5.3 and 7.9 mmol/L. I have a bad cold at the moment and fasting sugars never below 7.5 mmol/L at the moment. Frustrating!
