Hello, I guess I came just to find out about diabetes and to share with you something I can't tell the doctor...
Few days ago I went to my friend's (she is diabetic by the way) birthday party (but actually everything I will tell here, started earlier) and of course I ate a lot of sweets and cakes and stuff which she bought for the non diabetic people that came to the party.
Me and my mother stayed over her for 5 days but anyway, After the party ended, it was 00:00 and we went out to walk a bit (this a bit was till 7 a.m.) anyway I start feeling really sick (even at the party I did) but I didn't tell anyone, like sheesh it's 00:00 of course I'd be sick. When we came back home I fell asleep of course and woke up at 3 p.m. and I felt really bad, especially like throwing up. I start drinking heaps of water and going to the toilet of course. I drank that day 5 litters of watter and more 3 at the other day and I was just eating, drinking and sleeping (I felt tired all the time) but I wasn't sleeping well. My vision was a bit dizzy and annoying. My legs hurt all the time and it's really annoying.
My friend was staying with me all the time and then she just thought to check my blood on her Sugar Blood Monitor or whatever it is and she said my sugar was 375 mg/dl or whatever and ran really fast to her mother who is also diabetic. I don't know, probably it's high, but I know that normal should be 70-130 mg/dl, right ? Anyway, she desided to give me an injection and after few hours I start feeling better. My friend descided to also check me, first she did a test on me after I slept 8 hours (from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) and said that my blood sugar level is above what it should be (128 mg/dl but I don't see how it's high if the normal is between 70 to 130 mg/dl) and she descided to give me an injecion before I eat and I was really against because she start scarying me, not with the injection but with that I am sick or so but still got it. After some time told me to drink orange juice (but not natural one) and after I don't know, 1 and a half or 2 hours (I didn't really look at the clock, I didn't know it's a test, just did what she told me to do) she checked my blood and said that now it's way too high (217 mg/dl). She told me that as soon as I get home I go to the doctor because she and her mother thinks I should check it out.
My grand-mother's sister is diabetic and my grand-mother's son is also diabetic but is diabetes is a genetic diseas, or it's from eating too much sugar, or nobody yet knows ? Anyway, 2 days passed since my friend gave me another injection and I am still alive. I don't really want to go to the doctor so I didn't eat anything sweet till now and I drank only water but I am still very tired and I go to the toilet often (I guess cause I drink a lot again) and I don't really feel well. Can a dibetic live without injecting, just eating the right things ? Am I diabetic (my friend didn't really tell me and I am happy she didn't but I am kinda getting annoyed by all of this and I don't really want to call my friend, so I am asking you mates, by that story can you tell if I am diabetic or not ? Thanks a lot to those who read and thanks even more to those who reply.
God bless,

Buddy....go to the doctor. Seriously, nobody can tell you what's wrong, only your doctor can do that. That's why he/she gets paid the big bucks...they are trained to diagnose such things.

From everything you've said it does sound like diabetes. That's certainly a high bloodsugar. But before you go getting any injections from your friend again go straight to the doctor! Your friend shouldn't really have done that, only a doctor can know what you need. You may not need to have injections at all, but if you do they are nothing to worry about. You may not even have diabetes at all, I have heard of people having high bloodsugars for other reasons, but you can't ignor it, you'll never know untill you talk to a doctor.
You are describing all the same symptoms I had before i was diagnosed. And back then I was scared, but as you get used to everything there really isn't much to worry. Finding out you've got diabetes is a better option than ignoring it and getting really ill from high bloodsugars in my opinion :top: So go see a doctor as soon as you can

Ummm... I am really scared that I am one ='[ but I am not scared of injections or so, just from being sick. No chance that I can live without going to the doctor if I am diabetic ?

Player,
Why are you so scared of going to the doctor? Wouldn't it be best to have the peace of mind if you know, even better if you know you DONT have Diabetes?
I think you should go to your doctor and get a simple blood test by your doc, that all. It really simple to get over this frustration and anguish just imagining what you can or can't have. Would it be better to go with your friend or alone? I always say that Diabetes does not forget but it can be dealt with, unlike a lot of other things. Please keep us posted.

Yes, it is possible you have diabetes. Please go to the doctor and get some real medical attention. They have the testing supplies and knowledge to tell you what is really wrong. Do not let anyone give you injection of anything no matter what experience they have with it unless they are a licensed doctor. Experimenting to see if you are ill can really cause you to be ill or dead.
Laurue Lu put it much better than I am. Reread her's and please don't let anyone give you injections of anything unless they are medical professionals.

I hate doctors, that's why. Also when I was younger my mother brought me to the doctor to do a blood test and I had a high number but lower then when it's diabetes, it's prediabetes, right ? Anyway, when I was younger I kinda wanted 2 things: to brake my arm and have diabetes (Don't ask me why but I broke my arm last year and this year I had sugar problems, the one I told here is not the first time I have sugar over what it should be. At the beginning of this year I got to the hospital because of it =\). And no matter what I am more scared to go to the doctor than feel bad xD

I am also very moody and angry at people for saying nice things to me oO. My grandmother called from the hospital now and told me that she has diabetes like her sister now and that she loves me and some nice words and I was talking really badly to her and as if I don't want to talk with her, but I didn't mean it.

You may want to read the story of how my girlfriend was diagnosed (http://www.diabetesaly.com/content/2005/11/16/would-i-have-died-before-i-was-diagnosed.php). She didn't notice the symptoms, waited to long, and came within a few days of dying. If untreated, diabetes is 100% fatal. If treated, you'll live for a long, long time. It's not worth procrastinating about!

Being scared of doctors is somthing I definitely know about!... I have always hated them, mainly because my mum doesn't like them so she kinda passed that phobia onto me. But i'm ok with them now, i've only been ok with them ever since i was diagnosed, because they saved my life pretty much. I had a really high bloodsugar and didn't have a clue why i felt so tired and sick, the doctors helped me sort it out. I had pre-diabetes only i never knew about it till way afterwards. You really must see the doctor, being 'undiagnosed' is much worse than actually having diabetes!!.... 'if' that's why your tired and sick then it will just get worse if you dont see a doctor, 'if' you do get told you have diabetes then before you know it you'll feel perfectly fine and perfectly normal  I'm never sick because of my diabetes and alot of people I know wouldn't think I even have it. You have a friend who knows all about it all ready, and you sound like you know more than I did before i was diagnosed.
'if' you are diabetic then you'll need to have a check up now and then, I see the doctor every few months and it doesn't get in the way of my life at all. Also the more I see a doctor the more I realise their all a bit odd and certainly nobody to be scared of
But 'you may not even have diabetes...!!!!... you wont know untill you get checked properly.

Okay okay, you broke my fear from doctors because I don't want to fall again and hit my head and go on an ambulance to the hospital like it happened to me at the beginning of the year. How about I go tomorrow to the doctor and tell you what she said, aye ? And you will try make me feel better if it's the bad news, okay ? I am thankful for your replys, even though I am suppose to be angry that all of you say the same thing basically. But I am happy that people care =] Thank you. God bless you and help you and keep you safe always =]

Well I think you should see a doctor soon. If you are that scared of your own doctor then you can go to A&E and get checked out, like I did.
Leaving that high reading alone and not seeing a doctor at all will just cause you to have all sorts of problems that you really wont ever want.
 .... why am i confused

Player, IF you are a diabetic and don't treat it, the high bs will cause damage. This damage may not kill you, but leave you requiring constant care and medical attention. You would have fewer Dr appointments to treat the diabetes than the complications from the diabetes. I encourage you to see your Dr .
Please let us know how things are.

It's 6:15 a.m. here now and I feel really bad, and kinda week. When I went to the toilet I stuck into my piano because it was a bit dizzy and the space is small; now my side hurt, oi sheesh. Now I also remember that two days ago my mother brought cookies with chocolate and I ate 40 of them straight away and the last 10 yesterday. I am kind of really thirsty all the time but we don't have any bottles of water left, I finished the last 2 and a half bottles (each bottle has 2 litters of water which means I drank 5 littres again). I guess now I am getting ready to go to the doctor... My stomach always strts hurting when I go to my doctor, she scares me so much. It's 06:30 a.m. now and I will go at 07:00 a.m.. I don't know why but I feel much worse than after the party... Anyway I guess I'll write what happenes when I am back, in an hour or two.

Please go to the doctor! I think there is an echo in here? SERIOUSLY.
If your doctor scares you, do what I do, imagine her in her underwear. This really helps me cause my doctor is kinda HOT!
Listen to her and let us know how it goes and if you need any help..... oh, and welcome.

I am back. =S I came to the doctor and told her how I feel and all and she start asking me questions. After that she looked at some files on the computer, files about me, I guess when I was younger. And she asked me what I ate in the last 3 days and then she brought me to the room where they take blood to check it in the laboratory and took a bit of my blood. She said nothing after it and when we went back to her office she said that she needs to check few things in the laboratory before she says anything and she said that she needs to check my pee so she gave this special thing (don't know how it's called) so I will pee into it (I always hated this =S). She said she will call me when she'll get the results and if what she thinks is right she wants to do a little test on me before she actually says what I have. I am scared she thinks what I think =S I don't like it at all.

I'm so glad you went to the doctor! You don't want to go on feeling ill like this forever. Was it as bad as you thought it would be to see her? We all know what it's like to be waiting for the news, good or bad, so you're not alone. And you're right, it can be very scary, but once you know the results you will be able to do something about it. If it's bad news and you are diabetic, it will take some adjustments and lifestyle changes, but you will adapt and you will do well. And you will feel much better, really!! This forum is a great place and can help you with just about any problem or question you have, so definitely utilize it!
p.s. when will your doc call with the results?

Player, having received this diagnosis it's understandable to have some fear. It's better to have been diagnosed and get your diabetes under control than to have the fear of what's wrong with me.
Follow up with your dr. Visit here often and ask questions. There are some great people here and alot of knowledge.
By the way, welcome to the club.

I am sorry to hear that you had to join our little club with this diagnosis, but I am glad that you now know what's wrong and can begin to straighten things out. Remember, it's not the end of the world, just the beginning of a slightly different one.... one in which you will be just fine.
Hang around here and ask questions, share, vent, or whatever. The knowledgeable, friendly, and caring folks around really helped me when I was diagnosed T1 and had NO clue what to do or how to deal with it!

When I was first dxd I was scared to death. both of my moms parents died of complications from T1 and now I had it... Its been almost 7yrs now since I was dxd and now I am on a pump... I am even more worried these days as after my father died(Oct 2003) I was told that heart disease runs rampant in the men on my father's side of the family.... all but 1 died before 55 of heart failure including my father.... I am very gald that you went to the dr... Its better to know that to be in the dark... good luck and welcome to our corner of the Internet.

I've been on Lantus and Humalog since my diagnosis, which was a little over two years ago. You might forget to inject a few times, but that's natural. Just keep with it, and you'll do fine. I'm not sure what your doctor will do, but I was on a sliding scale for the first little bit, and then I was taught to count carbohydrates. It will seem overwhelming at first, but keep at it -- you'll be a pro in no time :).

Sorry to hear about the news, but atleast you now know exactly what it is. The first little bit is rough when you find out what works for you but good for you for going. It is not an easy step to take. Good luck with everything.
