HI all! Some of you know me by now. My husband is has T1 juvinial diabetes. when it comes to excorsize, we have a horrible time. He thinks he gets pleanty of excorsize, I myself dont agree. On his day off..(and he has about 3 in a row) he sits himself down in this computer chair and hardly moves unless he wants something to eat, or has to go to the bathroom. In fact he does'nt even want to get dressed unless I make him. Its very frustrating. I think that the two of us should start taking walks in the mornings when we get up...he on the other hand does'nt think its needed. I'm not talking about a major hike now, maybe about a good 20 minute walk...about 10 min out and 10 min back. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how i can get him motivated? I do have to admit, I can hardly get him to do anything around the house, untill I start getting upset. (by upstet I mean that kind of thing where a wife is mad at her husband cause the sinks been clogged for over a week) yes he lets things go around the house untill there so bad that we have to call in help. I love him, but its agrivating. Anyways...anyone got any ideas???????? :girl****:

Assure him that there will be a ________ pie (pick flavor), waiting for him when y'all get back?
Actually, you might have him Google Diabetes + Health Problems that's generally enough for me to get off my Fat @**
Edit: the healthier a man is the better he is able to........well.......do manly things

Hmm, this is a tough one. I don't really know if you can motivate someone. Well, maybe you can somewhat, but I think motivation has to come from inside oneself. You can't force him to eat right and exercise- that will only backfire on you. You can encourage him and invite him to join you on your walks, but it's really up to him to take you up on them. One other idea, maybe ask him about something he would like to try...maybe he would like to take up bicycle riding, or swimming at the local Y. Find out what interests him and then look into making it happen.
Good luck :top:

Well...I dont nag, which i figure is pretty good. I dont think giving him a pie would be a good idea though....mostly due to the fact that we've worked to hard to get his sugar down...unfortunately...we live in hickland...so there is no local Y...would be nice though if we did. OH well...i'll figure something out...something good....:whistling Our 1 year anniversary is on the 29th of this month...so maybe...ok..gotta go everybody....

Brandi,
There isn't a Y where I live either. I usually will walk down the road or hike through the woods. I usually walk one of the dogs. It's nice if I get someone to walk with me, but I will go alone. Start walking without him and see if he will join you. If he doesn't, you'll still get the exercise and it will help to clear your head.
I don't know if you can motivate him without his realization of the benifits. I felt a lot like him before last year before being dxd as type 2. I just didn't have the energy. I also think I was drepressed. After being dxd I had a heart to heart discussion with myself and decided I had 2 choices. I could exercise and take care of myself or suffer the complications of diabetes sooner than later. At first it was hard but the more I exercised and walked the better I felt. I was amazed what it did to my BS. Now I can tell when I haven't walked enough lately because my weight and BS starts creaping up. One thing I do is I bought a GPS peodometer and I have fun actually measuring how far I walk.
Is there a chance that he is suffering from depression?

The trick with exercize is to find something you enjoy. If walking isn't his thing then find something that is. It sounds like a virtual reality game that you need to walk round would be good if he likes computers. Visiting interesting places would be good. You have to walk round them after all.
get a dog and tell him he has to take it for a walk daily.
go to a swap meet and walk around looking at stuff.
join one of those mall walking clubs.
buy him a gym membership for his birthday.
