Floaters?

I've had floaters in both eyes - worse in my right - for about two years - oddly just about the same time I started tracking/notcing higher blood sugar levels, PCOS, etc.

I have been to the Eye doc's for it - and they tell me that there's nothing that can be done for it.

I'm curious, though, if anyone else has these and has used anything for them? Such as natural treatments, meds, etc.

I do tend to use green tea bags under a gel eye mask in the evening since my eyes get rather tired and puffy after a full day of computer staring at work.

My floaters ARE getting worse - almost to the point where they're really getting in the way of my normal vision - so I'm very interested in others experiences or treatments.

Someplace on this forum, I wrote about waking up one morning with a circle of floaters, right in the middle of my eye. This really scared me, and I went right away to my eye doctor. He gave me a good checkup and said it was not diabetes related, but just something associated with aging. He told me gravity would either pull it down out of my line of vision, or not. I just had my annual checkup, and the circle is still there, I just do not notice it as much. The doctor said it will probably always be there. He said it was nothing to worry about, but if I ever saw flashes or streaks of light to see him right away. Sometimes I have many more floaters, sometimes they go away, some just stay.:nerd:

This coming from a person who has experienced retinopathy to the tune of almost blindness........I would make sure I saw a opthamologist NOT optomitrist and make a yearly check with a retinologist. I go to the retinologist once a year for a check up (use to be once a week, then month, then every other month, every 3 months, then 4 months...until I got to the 1 visit a year). I know I have to do this because of the surgeries I have had. I have little floaters on occasions and he tells me they are blood and will disolve in time which I might add they do and they are so tiny to begin with. I just want you not to take this lightly and see someone who can give you a medical explaination

Oh -I am taking this seriously. I worked as an Optician and an Opthamologist assistant for a bit so I do know a bit about this from seeing patients and such with it. But having been out of that career for awhile - well - haven't been up and up on my eyes as much as I should. I did see an Opthamologist for this though - not an Optometrist. Knew this was something medically related - not just refraction/vision related.

From what I know, learned, have been told - the floaters are solidifying protein within the eye - natural occurance and all - but eventually they can start bumping on the nerves and that's when flashes come into play and that's when things get serious - don't need things detaching and all that good stuff. :-)

I'm due for a checkup and updated RX anyways for my vision so will be going soon to another Opthamologist here in this area within the next month or two - so we'll see how that goes.

I do know, too, I have a high pressure reading in my eyes - and that's been something of concern over the years - I'm just full of good stuff. *chuckles*

When you have floaters - at least for me - it looks like little "magnified amoebas" floating acrross your vision - or little spiderwebs - or even little tiny greyish/blackish dots that 'swim' across your vision.

I have Retinopathy and you can search for my journey through this, that I am still going through. There was not one eye doctor that detected this, till I developed SEVERE Retinopathy. I encourage you to go for a good check up w/ an Ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. Keeping my fingers crossed that you DONT have this or anything serious.

About 10 Years ago I got floaters in my left eye. I was walking down stairs and saw them appear, so I got an emergency examination at the eye hospital with the senior consultant within three hours of it happening. The initial concern was a detatched retina but fortunately this wasn't the case - just black fluid leaking into the fluid of the eye.

He said that this was a condition normal with ageing. Some people get it, some don't.

The floaters really bothered me for a while producing disturbed vision which I could only cure by wearing an eye patch over the affected eye but after some time this gradually eased.

Now, ten years later, I am barely conscious of them. They are still there and visible to the ophthalmologist, but somehow my brain has learnt to filter them out.

I was diagnosed with diabetes only a year ago so it seems unlikely that the floaters were diabetes related.

When I was insulin resistant and not diabetic, I began noticing floaters and flashing lights, so I went to the opthamologist. He said everything was fine. A few years later I still had them, and one day a grey curtain came over my right eye.

My retina had detached.

I always felt had this doctor REALLY done a more thorough exam he would have caught it.

I have virtually no vision in my right eye. I still have flashing lights, though, but can go months without having them. It's sort of like a flash goes from the left side across to the right, almost as if something is tearing and light is being let in. It happens 2/3 times each time.

My current retinal specialist says everything is fine with my eye.
