Earlier this year I noticed I would get nose bleeds at random times of the day..At first I didnt' think anything of it. But then they'd start occuring more often. I tried to see if there was something I was doing during the day theat may be triggering it. Temperature change was brought up, my work environment stays between 63 and 70 degrees through out the day. It doesn't seem that drastic. Plus the fact that I've worked here for almost 6 years and it just started out of the blue. Someone had also mentioned it may have been some medication I was taking (advil, tylenol) something along those lines. I hadn't ingested any of those in some time. I then started looking at my insulin. As odd as it seems, if I up my NPH by more than 3 units(thats not an exact number but lowest that I noticed)..My nose WILL bleed in the upcoming time. If its a before dinner shot, my nose will bleed sometime in the night, if its before breakfast then some time throughout the day. Has anyone else ever experienced this? My blood pressure is normal. And I've been told that antihistamines and insulin don't play well together... I'm looking for a new doctor now..My last one skipped out..Kaiser :( I'm at a loss and adjusting my insulin for the afternoon is getting harder because of this. ANy suggestions?

Thanks

Yet another reason to hate NPH...

Honestly I don't know. I only ever get nose bleeds in the winter when the air is dry. Are you SURE it's connected to the NPH dosage? could it just be a coincidence?

Are you taking ANY other drugs? aspirin maybe? Do you swim? Do you smoke? Alcohol? Are you having trouble with your sinuses?

I'm at a loss. I do hope it gets better for you.

I went through all accounts while testing different things out..this summer I went a month without drinking. I don't smoke or swim and I'm not normally taking anythng else..thats what makes it so strange. However if I do take any extra NPH, I expect the nose bleed and it occurs. I don't have a time frame though. Its in between doses though I figured out that much..

hrm.. I've never heard of NPH causing nose bleeds before, but as NPH is the devil (I'm sorry I really hate the stuff... bad experiences) it doesn't surprised me.

If you're pretty sure it's the NPH maybe consider having your doc switch you to a pump, or lantus, or some other alternative long acting insulin? might be worth a shot, as it can't be nice having nose bleeds all the time!
