This may be coincidence, and maybe not.
Over my lifetime, 100% of the Female Doctors I have had in any area, or any state have been absolutely outstanding. Without a single exception.
Male Doctors have been 50/50 on ranging from decent to completely worthless.
I have no theories as to why that is, but it has been a fact in my case.
Anyone else have similar observations?

I also have a female doctor and I feel the same way. The last male doctor I had didn't believe me when I TOLD him I was diabetic before I was officially diagnosed. My brother is also diabetic and I grew up around it, knew all the symptoms..etc. I went back about two weeks later, virtually blind and they finally checked my BG. I changed to a female doctor shortly after that. I don't know how many guys will admit it :flute: , but I think of my doctor as a motherly type figure, I feel better talking to her, it's just easier you know?

I can't agree totally, I have good and bad of both genders. But on the whole, I can say yes, it seems I have had more bad male doctors vs female.... but I don't want to start a stereotype.
Right now, my PCP is female and I love her to death. She is also my wife's PCP.
My Endo is male and I am quite happy with him as well.

I've never had a female doctor so am unable to comment. But my doctor is fab - he always has time for me.

I've seen both male and female docs and I can't say that one gender or the other is consistently "better." But I have noticed that my female docs are usually middle-of-the-road/ok/decent/nothing-to-write-home-about, while my male docs are either one extreme or the other: totally harsh/sterile/callous or fantastically attentive/knowledgeable/concerned for my well-being. Thank goodness my current male endo is the latter. :D
Yes, I actually NEVER go to male doctors anymore. I female docs are smarter because they had to work harder to gain recognition in a very male dominated field. As the playing field is getting more level these days, perhaps more stupid women will become doctors, and we won't notice such a gender divide.

My last CDE was a male and he was great. My current one is a female and she's turning out to be really good.

My Endo I can already tell is great and really smart just by talking to her. My male Primary Care doctor is probally one of the best doctors in my area. My female diabetic counselor is pretty dumb (Drew me wrong graphs for how insulin reacts in the body), but can spit out a bunch of book facts. My female dietition is great also and knows her stuff. (go Joslin Center!). My RN in the hospitial was also very good and took very good care of me.
Final Tally
Male 100%
Female 75%.....
.....snicker...I guess i would have to say guys are better!!!

My doctors are all now female except for my endo. I went to a female endo and didn't like her at all. My new endo is male.....well sort!
I tend to stick with female doctors anymore...but I am female.

I have had female doctors in the past, but now have a male doctor. My doctor now is excellent. He isn't soft spoken--he tells it how it is. He's very caring and very easy to talk, too. My favorite doctor since I've had diabetes was male. I had some wonderful female doctors, too. It would be impossible for me to make a distinction. I had good and bad with both genders. Mostly good in all.

In my original post, I said it may be coincidence, and it may well be.
But the difference for me has been that female Doctors are more aggressive, and seem to be able to really "listen."
In other words, every female Doctor I have had will say "ok, this is where we are at, and this is what we are going to do .. " (I LOVE that approach.)
As opposed to "ok, it was nice meeting you, come se me again in 2 weeks and we will start to formulate a plan " (then why was I here??)

You have not lived until you visit a female doctor for a dozen bouts with epididymitus... (Did I speel that correctly?) The drop dead gorgeous radiologist that had to "arrange" the boys for a blood flow test was a "bit" exciting too. :whistling

My primary care doctor, allergist, and endo are all female. I like the first two, but I hate my endo, and am looking for a new one. I go to a GI clinic where I see male and female doctors, and they are all great there.

Oddly enough, I've only had 2 female Doctors compared to the umpteen(lost count)male Doctors I've had. Both female were fine and so were most of the male Docs. There were only 3 of the males that I dumped because we didn't "click". I haven't looked for a new Doc in some time so there are probably more of female Docs in our city by now.

When I was little I went to Dr Murthi who was male and foreign but such a great dr.
Then when I moved to Va I've seen male and female dr's. They both have been great.
When first dx'd in 96 I saw Dr Syptak(male) and I liked him a lot. Then he moved into a different practice or something and I saw Dr Nio (his wife) and she was great too. Then when she left I starting seeing moms dr Dr Blackburn (male). He suggested mom to our now Endo Dr. Kapros (female) she is my absolute favortist dr in the whole world. She tells you straight up how it is and has great stories.
So I havent had a problem with male or female dr's.

I can not agree with you more.
Endo : Female
Primary Care Dr : Female
Eye Dr : Female
Foot Dr : Female
I have yet to find a female Dr in the Dental field. But once I do I am there.
I have given up male doctors

I've had one female endo, and didn't care for her. For whatever reason, she seemed to be on some power trip (i.e. she knew that I alternated between her & my previous endo in Florida when I visited, but didn't like it). In fact, she disliked having to "share" so much, that she dropped me as a patient (even though I kept her constantly informed of my visits with him & the like).
I moved on and have found another male endo, which I feel is better (for my liking). I've had several male endos, and only one has been less than stellar (one I was seeing prior to getting on the pump, but I switched to another male endo who cared & helped me start pump therapy). I had one female endo, and didn't like her at all.
In some other areas of health, I do prefer female doctors, but for endocrinology, I definitely like the men better. :D

My pcp is male, but his RNP, who is a CDE, is female, and they are both great. I dread that she's started talking about retirement.
This is going to upset some people, but it's my experience. Every "bad" doc I've had had been a career military doc who went civilian. When I realized this a few years ago, I started asking. A couple of the "good" ones were also military to civ converts, but every bad one was.
Not trashing military docs -- I spent much of the first 25 years of my life getting care at u.s. bases around the world, and I don't remember a single "bad" one, and some stand out as great. I think there must be something with the transition, or we just have a lot of louts around here ruining it for all of them :)

Here I am posting in the type 1 again. :stupido2: This is going to upset some people, but it's my experience. Every "bad" doc I've had had been a career military doc who went civilian. When I realized this a few years ago, I started asking. A couple of the "good" ones were also military to civ converts, but every bad one was.Noticed many sub-par docs when in the military andthey were usually the career ones. Many of them continue to wok post military at the VA which is why I avoid the VA when possible.
Only seen one female doc for less than a minute when she substituted for my doc. She looked like she did not want to be in the same room with me as soon as she seen me. The only thing I could figure was that I reminded her of someone she totally hated or someone that gave her trouble in her past.

In my 34 years I have seen mainly male PCP's. Two in particular caused me to go into DKA and I was literally on the verge of dying as a result of it. Kinda makes me leery of male doctors but my current PCP is male and my CDE is female so I see her now for just about everything medical. Only saw one endo and I wouldn't let him treat animals much less people.
I'm of the opinion that if I and my insurance are paying you to treat me for one thing, treat me for that, not everything else.
