Is anyone here taking this drug? Are there any side effects I should be aware of?

I took the regular glipizide in combination with avandia and metformin er and got way too low blood sugars. I have since droped the avandia and am taking the extended release glipizide with no problems. I did not feel any other side effects from this other than the low blood sugar. For drug information you can go to WEBMD.com and do a search for glipizide. You can find just about any data sheet for any prescription drug there. I use it a lot.

I take gliclazide (similar to glipizide) in conjunction with Metformin and it was the final addition to my medication package that helped bring my diabetes under control. I have no side effects.

The only thing to watch is that glipizide and gliclazide can cause hypoglycemia (lows) if you are exercising and not eating to compensate. When I do physical work I reduce my dose of gliclazide or even stop completely for the day am working. My doctor allows me to vary the dose at will up to a maximum of two 80 mg tablets twice daily.

wow. right now i'm taking 500 mg metformin twice daily, (1) 10 mg lisinopril , (1) baby aspirin and (1) 10 mg glipizide. i haven't started the glipizide cause i was nervous about taking so many meds at once. plus after reading the side effects/drug interactions on the pharmacy sheet attached to my prescipt i kinda started realizing i am having side effects... my doctor told me to up my metformin to 3x a day but since i started taking more i am feeling bloated all the time and i'm experience a loss of appetite for drink/food. i'm goin back to 2x a day and start the glipizide tomorrow. i haven't started my exercise program, i work at night so most of the day i'm sleeping and on my days off i try to keep the same sleep schedule so i don't throw myself off too much... i'm thinking of getting an elliptical machine for home so i can stop thinking of more excuses not to exercise.

I am having a lot of gastroinstestinal issues...especially that one you mentioned. Actually, I have been experiencing that for awhile now even before I started my metformin.

I'm definitely going to start walking. I have a little japanese chin who has lots of energy and I'm sure she'd be willing to join me. :proud:
