Hi all !
I've been a diabetic for over 20 years (I'm 27 years old).

I recently got an Accu-Chek Compact meter
(comes with Soft-clix pen )

WOW ! The surface area of the strip (which you cover with blood) is so small it requires very little blood.

* Stores the last 100 readings
* You replace a drum which contains 17 strips.
you dont need to enter a code every time you use a new pack as the machine reads the info from the fresh pack.


They also do two other versions , which use strips in the conventional way (which may be cheaper for those who pay for their supplies).

I dont mind injecting my thighs, but found finger pricking uncomfortable. Now I'm testing 4 times a day- and enjoy reading good results ! I wish these were around for everyone years ago !

The *System* cost me <£20 from Boots in the UK.

Really is the best thing since sliced bread !

I felt like I was taken off a tether and allowed to roam free when I got this system.


RamUK, the Induo also takes just a teeny, tiny bit of blood as well

no, I don't sell them(am a teacher)--I'm just so happy that I can go without being tied to an ice container with insulin in it

hehe, I think the Accu Check Compact takes very much blood and it doesnt let you check BG on your arms. I have a FreeStyle home and a OneTouch Ultra with me most places I go. Both costed 100kr ($12.4)

I've got the Accu-Chek Complete meter. I like it a lot, but I had to pay $80.00 (U.S.) for the darn thing and it is a lot of trouble (I've had to replace it 3 times so far).

Indou has been in Europe for a year now. I have one but I don’t use it, it’s too clumsy. However, I use the pen part, Innovo, and I like it, especially the memory function. I use the One Touch Ultra, same meter as in Induo, and it will do, until something better shows up.

I've had trouble with my Accu-Chek Compact meter as well -- the on/off button is a bit flakey and someties refuses to work and the general fit and finish of the thing doesn;t inspire confidence.

Also the SoftClix finger prickers seem to work loose after a while and so teh depth setting changes. My normal depth setting is 1.5 but my first two now work at 0.5.

I only stick with it as the 17 strip drum thing is so much less hassle than separate strips.

Although free to diabetics Accu-Chek Compacts are £17 (about £26 US) in the UK.

Never heard from you again!! Sure you had nothing to do with Roche? ;)

Anyway, as much as I like the convenience of the AccuChek drums, I loathe:

-The large blood sample needed as compared to the Freestyle
-The constantly malfunctioning buttons

Wish they could invent a meter which even uses smaller blood samples! I'm so tired of these raw and 'holey' fingertips.

I just saw the post from fishy. No, it's not gold plated, I guess it costs so much more because it allows you to store information such as when insulin is injected, when meals are eaten, when insulin reactions take place, and when you exercise. I'd like to get the Freestyle Tracker but I can't afford $300.00 for one. Maybe someday.
