Does anyone know if it's ok to premeasure say...5 days worth of shots and keep them in the fridge ready to go?

Depends on what kind of insulin. I know Lantus is very sensitive to air, and once air is injected into the bottle itself, all insulin in the bottle only lasts 30 days. I would think it would last even less in a needle. But as far as I know, that only applies to Lantus. Not sure of other kinds.

There are carrying cases out there for carrying up to (I think) five days worth of prepared syringes.

So, it must be OK.

I still want to know when they will come out with pre-filled cartridges for the pumps. Supposedly something in the FDA is holding them up from being released but I can't find out much about them.

i personally would not premeasure. when the temperature of the room changes, it causes air to come in, and insulin to come out.. or something like that. when i first got a pen, i would put the pen needle on way before hand. i ended up just getting a cartridge that was half air, and half insulin. i later read in the pen manual that this is caused from changing termpuratures.

Disetronic used to (maybe still does) sell prefilled cartridges for their DTron Plus pumps. They were actually Lilly's Humalog pen cartridges.

There's also a company, Logimedix, which will fill cartridges for any pump. I don't personally know anyone who uses this service, so I don't know how well it works, what they charge or what issues may arise, just passing on the info. Here's two links if you're curious about it.

I don't know what they charge

Well from their Q & A form

Q:Is there an additional charge for the pre-filling service?
A: No. LogiMedix is offering the pre-filling service as part of our commitment to improving the lives of people with diabetes. By offering this convenience, we believe that more people will be able to take advantage of insulin pump therapy and that those insulin pump users that do not like to fill their own cartridges will have access to a wider range of insulin pumps.

It's not that big of a deal to fill them on your own. If they existed, I might buy them from a known company such as Lilly or Novo-nordisk.

I use Lantus. From what I've read here though...hmmm. I think I might try pre-filling about 3 and see how it goes. I will watch for air or any cloudiness that might form. I'll let ya'll know how it goes. :)

I have heard of people doing that, but I know that it is not recommended because insulin is so sensitive to things. At least in the vial, you would know that it is safe and that your chances of there being a problem with that insulin would be less. I would say don't chance it.
