Just a quick post to say hi, and let you know that one more new person has joined the group. I've been reading this site for a while, and look forward to having a friendly group of people to help when I start my insulin pump (hopefully early next month).

Brief history: I was dx'ed 10+ years ago as a Type 1, and have been successful in avoiding any serious complications (as far as I know). I wasn't sick with flu or anything else before then, so my best guess is that very high stress at work that year did me in. I've always used a Mediject insulin injector (no needles), but my A1C hasn't been great. I split Lantus in two because it doesn't last 24 hours for me. And I take anywhere from 3 - 6 shots of Humalog for meals and corrections, meaning 5-8 finger sticks a day.

In the last few months, I have noticed that my fingers aren't healing as fast from the finger sticks, and my stomach is starting to show tiny marks from injections (even without a needle). Now I'm talking with my endo and CDE about going on the pump. It's a little scary, but it's scarier to think about what could happen if I don't. AND, I'm just plain tired of being on a roller coaster and never feeling really good.

This morning, I woke up with a humongous dark bruise (?) on the left side of my stomach, 3" across. I don't have a clue how it happened but it completely freaked my husband out. I'm guessing maybe it's something similar to what I've heard could happen with a needle - nicked a tiny blood vessel taking my bedtime shot, even though it's never happened before. I don't have a clue how long this will take to heal, but probably longer that it would have a year ago.

Anyways, thanks for being here, and thanks for sharing your experiences and hard-won knowledge with others.

Hi Jenet,

It sounds like you're taking steps in the right direction to regain control. I know just what you mean about the rollercoaster....I rode it somewhat throughout my teen years (I was diagnosed at 10), and much more before starting pump therapy. After alot of preperation (and after going through 2 endos, lol), I finally started on the pump in '96. I've found much better control on it than ever before (was on 4-6 injections per day before).

However I must admit that, with as many times as I test per day, the callouses haven't gone away (of course, I only use four fingers, my two ring & pinky fingers, lol). :D

Glad you've found us & I know that you'll find many new friends & helpful info. here. Be sure to ask any questions, as someone will be bound to have experienced something similar. Welcome aboard, and hope you post often. :shakehand

Hi Janet and welcome. I've had a wild bruise or two on my tummy and it freaked my hubby too. They look absolutely horrific! Mine usually only take a couple of days before they start to disapear. HOpe to see ya around posting like the rest of us:captain: Liz

 Hi Jenet!! I don't pump, but just wanted to welcome you to the forum.

I have had some horrific bruises on my stomach before. Not many--just enough to make my hubby become very caring. It has taken only a day or two for them to go away.

There is a lot of knowledge and support here, so please post often with questions, comments and knowledge. Northing is too silly to ask. Those are the ones I need the answers to.
