My normal evening meal takes 2 units. That's about 20g carb per unit. If I have a very large meal though it can take ages to digest. This means if I simply multiply the units up in preportion I end up hypo with a near full stomach. Do other people have this problem?

Much will depend on the make-up of the meal.
High carb meal and I'm OK when using my usual 1:15 ratio.
High protein meal with few carbs and I am more likely to go Hypo if I use 1:15 ratio. That is part of the reason that I always "Force" myself to have a dessert when wife and I go to steak buffet. At the steak buffet I'm more likely to overload on protein. The particular one we favor always has wonderful steak, but often has great salads as well. So, I know that a dessert is needed to balance out the way my bodyb processes the meal.

If I eat much more than one carb exchange at a meal, I usually go hypo. For whatever reason, I think my body digests my carbs slower than the insulin uptakes. Especially if it's dinner, I'll go hypo two or three hours afterwards but wake up with a high BG in the morning. So, I usually stay away from the carbs! I'm also very affected by carbs, though (I take 1 unit per 5 grams of carbs, but I'm a tiny person, 105 lbs. I guess I'm just hyper-sensitive to carbs!), so that could have a lot to do with it. Anyways, I know exactly what you're talking about. Thanksgiving was a mess this past year! I was low an hour after dinner and high four hours later....what fun!
