I have been dealing with type 2 for about 3 years or so.

I have been having a tough time controlling my Blood Sugar levels lately and have been wathching my "diet" more the last few days.

My problm seems to be to get my numbers in range I really have to eat a very small amount and end up hungry and grumpy all the time.

I really am afraind that I will end up using insulin before too long.

Max

Hey Max, glad you found the place. Ofttimes when you don't eat enough, you liver will dump out sugar and drive your numbers up. I did the same thing and was hungry all the time. Ask a dietition about how many carbs you should be eating each day. Then make the best choices you can. There are lots of people here with experience so wait around and I'm sure others will be along. Take care and see ya around.

Hi Max. What meds are you on? Are they not keeping your bgs in control?

Hi Max,

Welcome to the forums. Sometimes it seems that eating is a chore for many of us. Liz offers good advice, consult a dietitician about helping you plan meals. You shouldn't have to starve yourself to achieve decent numbers. Even more importantly, you're unlikely to stick with an eating plan that isn't sufficiently filling for the long term and, as you already know, diabetes is a long term condition.

Here's the bright side: Once you achieve good, solid control and learn more accurately how to manage your diabetes, you should be able to add more variety to your diet. You might even get to the point where the thoughts of a piece of cake once in awhile doesn't make you cringe!

Good Luck and keep us posted.

If you like pork rinds (low fat, almost pure protein, no carbs), snack on those. They will leave you feeling satisfied for a long period without raising your blood sugar. I get mine in big plastic tubs at Sam's Club. Read the label, though, to assure that you're getting the good ones: some are high in fat.

Thanks all for the tips and info. Eating right for type II is just so tough for me. I get bored with the foods that I can eat and then I end up eating stuff I shouldn't just to kill the boredom.

I had some Chinese for lunch on Friday and thought that it wasn't too bad with all the vegetables but 5 hours later I measured 204.

I have found that a lot of fruit is not that bad for my numbers but I get burned out of fruit for breakfast everyday.

what are pork rinds? I'm just curious. I find chinese always drives my sugars up. I find nuts quite filling as well.

Hey Max...welcome :hello:

Yeah, I think many find diet one of the hardest componenets of diabetes management- I know I do. Have you been able to meet with a registered dietician or CDE? Travis is right, you shouldn't have to starve yourself in order to stay in range. A good dietician can answer your questions, set up a meal plan, and give you good ideas on how to eat a healthy diet :eating:.

In the meantime, are you drinking enough water? I think sometimes people confuse hunger for thirst... Also, what about protein? I think that eating protein with your meals keeps you feeling a bit fuller as well. You can also fill up on veggies like salad veggies, cucumbers, broccoli, etc.

I know it's difficult, but once you get into the habit of eating healthfully, it becomes second nature.

Good luck! :ciao:
