Hello everyone!

My name is Jim Mitchell and I'm a 46 year old type 2 diabetic.

I was diagnosed in 1996, and my Dr. at that time put me on Glucophage.

After about 2 years I was able to get it under enough control using diet and ginseng that I was able to drop the Glucophage.
Over the next 8 years I became complacent and over confident. I felt normal, and convinced myself that IF my blood sugar started to rise again I would feel it and do something about it...

I was, of course, an idiot!

Fast forward to January 2006. 2 weeks ago I was suffering from what I thought was simple constipation with some associated back pain...

No such luck. When I went to the Dr. I found out that my BS was at 365. I was sent to the lab for blood work, and urinalisys. My HbA1c is 11.5 and she says I'm spilling keytones in my urine.

I'm scheduled to go back and see her on Tuesday afternoon....
I'm also supposed to do a 24 hour urine test within the next week or so...

Oh yeah, and we discovered a spot the size of a US quarter on the back of my right heel that's completely numb....

Looks like the vacation is over for good this time....

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this forum!

Hi Jim,

Glad you've found us, and I sure hope & pray that things will begin to look up for you with your health. It's good that you're getting on the right track to correct things now. Others will testify how they've fallen off the wagon now & again (myself included). I'm Type I, so am not much help on certain meds, but there's a wealth of Type IIs here who will be able to relate & help.

I gotta say, I just love your pic & avatar & your hat!! Very festive & Very cool!

Welcome to the family, and here's hoping you'll meet many new friends here. Feel free to post any questions or concerns you may have, and we'll be sure to help where & whenever possible. Once again, welcome & best wishes to you!

Sincerely,
Dewey :shakehand

hi jim welcome

thanks for posting. i've been in denial for about a year .... and my BS numbers are way out of control also. but i think if we keep all our Dr appts, watch our diet and take our meds we can get it under control.

Ahhh yes, my hat....

It took me several years to find that red felt fedora, and I made the band myself...

It's kind of my trade mark... During the off season...

You see, I can only work at my "REAL" job about 1 month a year...

The rest of the year I have to Play Quality Manager for a small high computer manufacturer.

My "REAL" job???
