Those of you taking Metformin, how much has it improved your Blood Glucose levels?

Hard to say exactly, because when I started on it I also implemented a huge diet and excercise routine, but I know that when I messed up and found myself out for a few days, my numbers suffered.
Anyway, it seems to have differing levels of effectiveness for different people...like all things diabetic. The only way you'll know is for you to try it, and monitor.

I find it extremely effective. It keeps me completely in line.
I'm on 1000mg per day, which I take first thing in the AM. If I do, my bgs are great all day, unless I overdo it on sweets or meals. If I forget it one day, my bgs will rise to 10 or more each time I eat.
Also, I am apparently very lucky in that I experience no side effects like others do. Well, one side-effect - a very GOOD one: it tends to curb my appetite. When I went off it for a short while, I was ravenous in late evening.

Metformin is effective but it's not a cure. I have to stick to a healthy diet, and a healthy lifestyle. I must exercise. Just the tablets alone wouldn't do the trick.
I had quite severe side effects at first (lots of kneeling in front of the white porcelain) but it went away. I have been side effect free since! I still have occasional problems with fasting sugars. Otherwise I am doing quite well, sugars ranging between 5 and 7 mmol/L. I'm on 1000 mg a day. I have the 'slow release' kind and it works better for me than regular Metformin.

Hey - I'm definetly a newbie here - just got diagnosed last Thursday with type 11, I'd already lost 75lbs, been excercising, and the Dr put me on metformin last Friday and ramped up to 2000mg per day, 1000 in the moring and 1000 at dinner.
Dr. said he caught it very early for me, and when I did the BS fast test, I was at 17, now, after only a couple of days, I'm right down to between 10 and 13 and he wants me down below 9.
I've had no side effects except maybe a little gas, already my big thirst has dropped off and I'm not peeing at night frequently.
Dr said if I responded well he'd drop me down and hopefully, once I stabilize, I may be able to go to a lower dose.
But literally, after only 12 pills, my sugars have dropped 7 points!
Seems to be a good drug....(fingers crossed).
This board has been a great knowledge source though and has removed my fear, anger and depression.
Cheers!
