Humalog -vs- Novolog

I am on an insulin pump and I use humalog most the time in it. There was a while though when I didn't have insurance and my doctor would give me samples of Novolog to use. He said that they were the same thing. But, I have spoken with other docs and educators who say that there is a difference in how they work.

Has anyone used both and seen any differences in them and how they affected your control? I didn't feel any different, or see any odd bg's. What are your thoughts?

Meh. Differences for some, not for others, like everything with this **** disease. Novolog works a bit faster for me, but now that I look at it, I am pretty sure it ends its duration a bit sooner as well. I'd have to get some Humalog to compare, and I doubt I'll do that, but that's my feel with it.

Isn't Novolog supposed to be more heat resistant?

I was on H for a short time after being Dx'd, then switched to Novolog so I could use the InDuo.

The main thing I remember is that (for me) N seemed to kick in faster and I had better #s after switching to N.

But, I really wasn't as good at carb counting, yet.

Part of that might have simply been that I really liked the InDuo Much Better than hauling the syringes around with me.

My attitude really improved after getting my machine, I didn't feel so much like a..........well whatever I felt like.

Both points made my Duck and Someone are very true. I use Novolog in mine and I have found it does work faster.

Well, I am almost out of humalog for my pump. I am going to try Novolog on my next round and see how that goes. I'll let you know.

I am on Humalog and I have a friend at work who is on Novolog. We tried an experiment. Our readings were within 10 points of each other, we have the same ratios, and we ate the same lunch. Her Novolog kicked in quicker than my Humalog and caused her to go low. So IMHO, that shows me that Novolog may have a quicker reaction time. BTW, I had the lower reading at the start. Go figure !!

Yes, that is why it's suppose to be more recommend for pumpers. They also claim that pumpers may require a little less novolog than they did humalog. Basically it goes with the breakdown effect that insulins have at high heats and humalog is more prone to it. But it's such a small amount, many won't notice a difference.

I will be doing a permanent switch to Novolog in a few days after being on Humalog for 3-4 years. So I'll let everyone know if I have to make any changes or not.

Funny...I've found just the opposite to be true with me. I guess we're all individuals and it's good there's both to choose from.
