learning to cook...Help! lol :)

I just got married in November 2005, and I am learning how to cook. I'm a type 1 diabetic. My husband isn't a diabetic, and so it is hard to make some of the sugar free foods and things because he is used to real sugar taste in everything. What are some good recipies that you use that can please both a diabetic, and non diabetic?

the wife and I eat the same things. Although I'm the one in the family who does the baking.

I just inject to cover what we're having. I might not eat as much as I would always like. But we eat the same stuff.

My father-in-law is T1 and that's the way it was in her family while my wife was growing up too.

Yeah, we have been eating mostly the same stuff too, but as far as making things that won't cause me bolus more than what I should is a difficult thing. Also, my husband has never had a diabetic in his family or anything, so it is a learning thing for him. He is coming along, and I am proud of him. But, the man loves his carbs and his sugar....lol

I'd say just eat balanced meals as much as possible. I don't think you have to dramatically cut carbs or cut out any food group, but try to make sensible choices. Then, of course, do your best to cover your food choices with insulin as needed.

You might want to pick up a quick and easy cook book or possibly set up an appointment with a dietician. A cook book can give you easy recipes and a dietician can also give you advice, suggestions, and ideas for your meal planning.
