Hi, The snack bar called Glucerna made for Diabetics. I think I paid 4.40 for a box of four bars. I bought them to try and also I had a two dollar coupon for them to.

They are a little pricey but if you're really active and don't have time to eat properly they it may well be worth your time. Do they fill you up? I'm for anything that makes this disease easier to deal with.

Rob, I agree they are pricey and find they aren't very filling. I've only bought them if I had a coupon. Usually I use them if I don't have the time to stop and eat something better.

I have seen them and they are pricey. Have you read the label on the back and compared it to other nutrition bars?
You might be surprised. he carb content is was affects us diabetics most. I know form my experience, a lot of these, so called "sugar free", "for diabetics" turn out to be just a way to charge us more because we are better off if we actually have something regular. They actually contain a lot less sugar/carbs.

I've used them when I couldn't think of anything else to grab in a hurry. They are pricy, but are the only ones I have found where the carbs are in line. The others I've compared are very full of carbs. I need something on Sundays to eat while at church. We have three hours worth of meetings with a couple breaks. It goes from 10-1. I've used the shakes more than the bars. Mostly I eat baby carrots or cheese and crackers.

A glucerna bar contains avg. Carbohydrate, g 24-32g
other choices:
Entennman's Multi grain 1.3 - 25g
Carnation Bars chewy (P.butter/choc chip) 24 g
Kellog Cerel bars 0.08 oz- 16g
Nature's Path Krispy Rice 20g
Nuri grain Granola Bar- 18 g./ Chewy Bars 18g
Chewy bies - 20g
Kudo's 16-17 g
Most of these have an avg. 3-5 gms of fat, just like Glucerna at 5-7 g of fat.

I like the south beach high protein cereal bars, especially
the peanut butter. 15g carbs, 10g protein and 5 gr fat.
140 calories. I keep them in my purse incase of a low, I find if you catch it early, the carbs bring it up but the protein keeps you from crashing again. I still keep the glucose tabs for very low lows. I sometimes have to work late and am prone to late afternoon lows so if it looks like I am going to work late, I will head off the low with a bar about 4:30. By 6:30-7:00 I am ok for dinner.
You can get them on sale at Kroger stores for $2.68 a box of 5 bars so I stock up then. They are good for breakfast on the run as well I have found.

Has anyone tried the Quaker Q-Smart Bars? They come in peanut butter chocolate chip and cranberry almond. They actually taste just like regular snack bars. I buy them at my local Target......$2.99 - $3.49 for a box of 5. Well worth the money!

15 carbs per bar and they are less than $3.00 U.S. per box of 12 bars

The Crunchy versions at the bottom of the page are the 15 carbs per bar and less than 3 bucks per box.
I even catch them on sale once in a while for less than 2 bucks per box.

The whole purpose of a glucerna bar is to provide a source of carbohydrate that will not spike your BG. A normal granola bar will make your glucose go up for maybe an hour, whereas glucerna takes many hours. I usually have a glucera bar if I need a snack before bed. If I am low, I will have some simple carb and part of a glucerna. Glucerna really does work for what it says it does.. it is not at all a waste of money if that is what you need to help stabalize your BG.

The ones with more protein/fat and less carbs (and less cost) might be worth checking out...
I personally don't like the bars (too pricey, and they taste like cardboard.) However, I have been known to drink the Glucerna shakes from time to time when I was very busy and needed something quick. Also, when my mother was in the final stages of her cancer, it was about the only thing she wanted to/could eat. As she died shortly after I bought a case of the stuff, I had plenty to get rid of, and found out that I had developed somewhat of a taste for it.
