Inspiring...

"I remember my mother sharpening the needle each time on a whetstone,"

That made me cuss aloud when I read it...

I still can't get over the thought of having to jab oneself with a needle sharpened on a whetstone! Wow!

I still have my whetstone around somewhere. Use to have to boil the syringe and needle unless you were running late , then you just squirted some water thru it . AH the good old days :)

I loved this quote from the article:

"My main reason to stay alive," said Gerald, "is to prove to young people there's a way to live with diabetes, to live well."

"to live well"..........and he certainly has!

:star: I thought I already answered this. Guess I just talked about this amazing  mother who sharpened needles for her son. I am amazed at the dedication of this woman (and many mother's that sacrifice for their diabetic children). We really have it easy with our disposable needles and scientific engineered diabetic supplies. Life is really good for us diabetics of the 2000's.
