I can't stand it when she goes low...

Eri got up early this morning for her tutor, and we checked her sugar, she was a bit high, 257mg/dL...she took her shot and got ready to eat, didn't get much in her, and the tutor showed and she went right to work...for about an hour and a half. After she finished, she came upstairs and went to get something in her room b/f her other tutor got here. Well, I went in there and told her to eat b/f she had to be tutored(and checked her bg...she was 43)...and she was out cold...wasn't responding to me at all...I even shook her, she didn't wake, so I pulled her in a sitting position and tried moving her some more...she FINALLY snapped out of it...oh I HATE it when that happens. I got some lemonade into her and made her a sandwich w/ some chips and now she is at 97.
Anyway, just had to get that off my chest...sorry about that!!!

Don't be sorry about venting! I'm sorry you had to go through all that. How scary must that have been :afraid:. I've never blacked out like that, and I hope I never do, but that's truly frightening.

Is it possible that her doses need to be adjusted? How often is she testing? I don't mean to give you the 3rd degree, but I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent this from happening. If you haven't already, I'd give Eri's doc a call and see what they suggest. :call:

I admit, though, I'd like to make copies of all Eri's events and take them and SHOVE them up the nose of the nurse at the new PCP's office. That way, that stupid cow would, maybe, understand why people on insulin have to check more than 2-3 times a day. Stupid Kow.

I would encourage you to keep a few tubes of instant glucose on hand. On the type I like(d), there used to be instructions that said to put the glucose onto the gums if the person was unconscious but that's no longer the case, but I hope that it can be used in small amounts in such a situation. I know it's been used on me when I've passed out.

Yeah, it freaked me out more b/c I haven't dealt w/ her passing out in years. I mean, she used to have so many seizures, I dealt w/ them, but it has been a WHILE. I believe she was just at that point of seizure...she had that feel to her and all that...she was so lost looking when she came to.
I KNOW it is b/c she didn't eat a great amount of food at ALL after her shot, her tutored showed and it was test time(science)...
Oh, I keep notes of all that goes on...her paperwork for doctors alone since just December is quite thick.
Right now she is back to herself(good/bad...uhhh, who knows?lol)...pre-teen girl...always fun!!!

:knuddel: I'm so sorry that you and Eri have to go through such scary episodes. :s: Trying to deal with that type of episode and then add on life in general--I just can't imagine. I hope you can treat yourself to something--at least deep breaths once in awhile. You are an inspiration to me.

Weird how we can get use to some things, and even though we KNOW how to deal w/ them, they are almost still an element of surprise.

Things come in 3's...first that, then I find out my inalws will be here this Wednesday night b/c my husband's grandfather passed away last Friday and the service is Thursday morning(thank GOD, b/c Eri's GI doc appt. is Thursday afternoon)...and then we rec'd a phone call that has me boiling so bad...the only good that came out of THAT was that I lost my appetite.
I was called a "dirtly little Sicilian B*&CH" by my husbands ex g/f. Call me a B any time...but do NOT degrade my heritage...EVER. (OK, I will admit, I was not such a lady in the response I gave her, but hey, I'm human!!!)(God forgive me!!!)
Amazing how fast those 3's came today!!!

Oh, and I got a phone call from Eri's ped...they said her thyroid looks good(I already KNEW that!!!)...and that now, after the GI, I should get her in to see an allergist. She is getting so tired of doctors, but she HAS to, I refuse to let diabetes get the best of her...AND...just always has to be an AND...well, now she is saying that her back and front hurt(right side...I'd say kidney maybe?)...b/c it is when she uses the bathroom while checking for ketones.(negative ketones for now, thank GOD!!!)...but I'm concerned about the pain...and the doc will say we are seeing the GI doc Thursday(the ones I was told about b/f in a PM :) )...and the doc already suggested that I ask the GI doc for a nasal spray or something for Eri...and I was like, but, he's a GI doc...why would he give orders for a nasal spray, why can't you? And she said to get an appointment w/ an allergist.
Is it just me or would you be a little perplexed yourself on that one?

(Oh, and I have EVERYTHING documented anyway w/ her, the paperwork is just piling up)...

What a lousy day! I can't comment on most of it, but Eri's original problem of 'going low' points out that once you've taken your insulin, you've committed to eating a certain amount of carbs, NO MATTER WHAT, or you get Eri's situation.

I've forced myself to eat some truely horrible frozen food - looked good in the box - because I'd already covered for it. Or else make up the difference with candy.

But with a child that's very different. I wouldn't want to be in the position of saying "Eat your carrots, or Mommy is going to make you eat candy!"

Definately a situation where glucose tabs, even with their cost, are better than candy.

Today I made sure food was practically in her mouth b/f she had her shots. She was doing well until her food decided to come back up...ugh!!!

At least the GI doc is only 2 days away...thank God!!!
