Hi, I went for my laser therapy yesterday. The doctor said that it's working and the blood vessles are starting to shrink! So no more laser for me for at least 3 months! I have to go back in april/may for a check up. As you can imagine I'm really happy to hear this news!

Hi Fiona: Well, that is Great news. Did you have one or both
eyes lasered? How many shots this first time? I had my left
eye vessels lasered about 21 yrs. ago(250 shots the first visit
and 240 the second visit). Good for you and Good Luck. :)

Hi kickstart Altogether I've had about 500 or so in the left eye. In the right I've probably had about 3,000 as it was in a really bad state. Yesterday I had 500 in the right eye only. Did you have your eyes lasered 21 yrs ago? Have you had any further treatment on them?

Yes, Fiona. I had my left eye lasered twice about 21 yrs. ago. My
Son was 2 yrs. old and now he is 24 yrs.(and getting MARRIED in June.
I'm still in SHOCK). :D My right eye has never needed laser. Weird.
I've always worried about needing more lasers every time I had to go
see my Ophthamologist. But NO, I've always been given a good report
concerning that thankfully.
Wow, you sure have been through alot. I do hope that you have
Excellent results and hopefully NO more lasers. :five:

:dancing2: Great report, Fiona. I've never had to go through what you are. It's wonderful that the laser is working. :afraid: I'm afraid I wouldn't do very well with shots in the eye. I know whatever I had to do to have good eye sight I would do. But I sure wouldn't like it. I've never had eye problems, but my Grandad and Uncle both went blind. Mom was close to it. So I am very careful. Your report deserves a celebration--a healthy one, but a celebration!!:thrasher:

Kickstart, is your control very good? You're lucky not to have needed anymore laser. Hey, have any of you guys ever smoked? I smoked when I was going through my teenage rebel phase, but don't anymore. I know smoking increases retinopathy.

Well, Fiona, I'm not Irish so probably not as Lucky as you. ;) I was not
taught much about being Diabetic when I was younger. We lived in a wee town with an old Doc who made house calls. But thankfully he was able to diagnose me although there were no other Type 1's in the area to get info from, that we knew of. I guess we fell through the cracks. I certainly rebelled against the D for sure when I was from age 12 to17. The rest of the way I just didn't know until I was pregnant and finally got some notice. So I did pretty good with sugars through both pregnancies with my Doc's help. She was calling me twice a week at my home to make sure I was okay plus all the appointments. I finally "accepted"(you know it when you are there)my
Diabetes when I was about 28. I had my Kids to look after and Hubbie. I mean, I always looked after them but my Diabetes wasn't in control always unless I was pregnant and under the microscope. So from age 28 I started looking into Diabetes and looking after myself better. I figured that is why I
needed the laser on my eyes cause my sugars were usually all over the place.
I mean when we were Kids we were only allowed to test 2 or 3 times a day. And we were not allowed to take our testing equipment to school. So we really didn't know how our sugars were all day. (It was the urine/water/tablet/test back then up until about age 16 or 17).
Oh and when I was 18 yrs. old I woke up late for work one day and forgot my Insulin while I ran to catch the bus for work. It was a very hot summer. The water fountains weren't working properly at work. I went to McDonalds around the corner with everyone else and had my hamburger, fries and drink. While at work I had a couple chocolate drinks since the fountain wasn't working right and nothing else to drink. After work, packed my stuff, took my long-acting, headed home for the week-end. Much later that night, my Parents driving me to the Major Hospital an hour away, I'm throwing up blood. A while later I'm in a Coma for 3 days. Docs said they did everything they could but I'm not responding, I'm not going to make it, they're Very Sorry, to my Parents.
The next morning my Mom allowed my Boyfriend in to see me(since she knew I loved him and I guess she figured it was on my last), he told me alot of the things he talked to me about all morning, and just before noon, I woke up and I said, " Hi" and smiled and asked why were we in a Hospital. The rest is History. But I think alot of my unknowledge and this Coma had much to do with my eye problems. That's it. Sorry, so long. :)
HHHMMMMM, I guess I am Lucky. Still not Irish. :)
Yes, my conrol has been pretty good for many years. My Docs are Happy.

That's great news Fiona, glad to hear it, now keep your BS and BP in check and hopefully you'll never have to see another laser! :)
