I found this forum, became a member, and started posting, all without realizing that this section existed. So now I want to say HI folks.
I am was DXed about 11 years ago as a type II, about 2 years ago I became insulin dependant. I've noted myself as a "1.5", but that's not correct technically. There's no category for Type II insulin users (hint, hint), so I use 1.5 to imply both.
I was first put on a sulfonylurea. I didn't watch what I ate and wasn't getting decent results. I happened upon Dr. R.K. Bernstein's book on Type II diabeties which advocates a strict low-carb approach. I tried the diet and had my first low!
I was off the pills in a week, and over the next six months some of my complications reversed. Notably, I was able to have erections again. (There seems to be little discussion in the forum on diabetic complications, especially this one, erectile disfunction. Am I breaking a taboo?:shot: )
And this happened, and that, and then..., and here I am.

Well... WELCOME....
Yes there are MANY T2 that are on insulin, even on insulin pumps.
Erectile disfunction is a complication due to Diabetes, mainly when the male runs high blood sugars.
Lo-carb is ideal for DIabetics as Carbs are what affects our BS most, but if you over do it then you runinto Low blood sugars.

I think Type IIs get more complications, since we tend to run high for years before we're DXed and then take a while to get serious. A Type I, finds out there is a serious problem real fast, or so I gather.

It's a common complication, when you consider how fragile the entire apparatus is. There have been other members here who have mentioned it, some after the fact ("hey, it's working again!"), but there is NOTHING taboo around here.

Yes you are right in a way. Then we have the T1s that stay in denial for a looooong time and run into all this.

It depends on your number of posts, I forget what the qualifications are. They are nice here with their titles, one forum I belong to when you get over 3000 posts you become a "post whore". Nice, no?

Are you on the Dum-asses side? I'm near the DMV on Hastings Road. There's actually a few of us members here in Manassas and Fairfax. Must be something in the water. :dontknow:

I should explain for those who don't know...There is a road here that runs between the City of Manassas and a town called Dumfries...The joke is the area between is the "Dum-assas" region...
