Hi All,:shakehand I am new here and am hoping to learn whatever i can learn. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2, and am controlling it with diet and exercise. Trying to find recipes and hoping to get any information to help me out. I would appreciate any help you may be able to give me. Thanks

i like just about any type of food.. Chocolate mostly ...ha ha No, all kidding aside, i have found some diabetic recipes on line, but anything new will work! My husband and son are very fussy, they will TRY something if there are not too many things in it for them to be fussy about.:(

 Welcome, Tina. Hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do. The trick is to post often with questions and comments. Never think a question is too stupid. There will be someone out there (probably me) that needs the answer. Don't forget to post to chit chat, too. As we get to know you better we can answer your questions easier.

Welcome Tina.
Do be careful about which recipies you go for. There are a number of different approaches to what the correct diet for a diabetic is. Everybody agrees that you should avoid sugar, but beyond that it's wide open. The AMA and ADA recommend a "heart friendly" diet that is high in carbohydrates but low in fat. There is a whole other school of thought that reduces carbs, as much as possible. If you were on injected insulin, you would find that the amount of insulin you require primarily depends on the amount of carbs you eat.
I have my own opinion as to the right approach, but I'll let others start that argument. If you mix the recipes from both schools, you will get the benefit of neither.
Like much else with diabetes, you have to do your homework and make choices for yourself.

Hey, Tina...
Welcome :D
Unfortunately, I'm far from a chef myself, but I think others might be able to help you with those recipes. :eating:
Anyway, hope you will visit and post as you like :)

WELCOME....
My advice would be to learn your to read your labels well and watch the carbs. Don't cancel them out , but watch them as they are what affects sugars most.

Thanks everyone for your input... it means alot. I have seen a dietician and she has steered me in the right directions to reading labels and what i should be doing with a new way of eating. (i dont call it a diet, cuz it is the way i need to eat the rest of my life.) I have been doing 1,500 calorie and since January i have lost 10 lbs and my glucose reading and my blood pressure has come down also! I feel bad due to the fact i have not done any walking for the last couple days, as i am not feeling well. Have the flu or cold... something is going on!

Tina,
Welcome! Try "The Good Carb Cookbook, Secrets to Eating Low on the Glycemic Index" by Sandra Woodruff.
If you are unfamiliar with the Glycemic Index, it essentially rates foods by how fast their carbs are processed by the body into glucose, more processed foods tend to be higher GI. Higher GI foods tend to result in larger amount of insulin being produced. Lower GI foods tend to be less processed and stay with you longer.
Another good resource for T2 is "The First Year, Type 2 Diabetes" by Gretchen Becker.
For what its worth.
Good Luck, see you around.

i find that too much salad will upset my stomach, but i still eat them. Not all the time due to that is what i probably will be eating when Spring and Summer come along. Chicken......"bauk bauk" i think i am turning into a chicken! LOL! Have you seen a dietician Linda? I found that was a B I G help.
