My diet hasn't changed really but my morning Bg's have been creeping up.
A few weeks ago they were about 110 on average. They got up into the
120's and the last three days have gotten up into the 130's.
I decided I needed to start keeping track in my food journal again starting today. I quit because I had a good handle on my food and morning Bg's were running 100-104 and stayed there for 6 months.
I spent 6 weeks in a wheelchair due to knee surgery from mid-December through January and my Bg's remained pretty good. My last A1c in December right before my surgery was 5.4.
But in the last two weeks I have started spiking up again in the morning.
Could it be the limited exercise? I start physical therapy in about 3 days so maybe that will help?
Any ideas?
Getting "in shape" gives you some leeway for when you cannot exercise or get laid up. This will sound very untechnical, but when you start getting "out of shape", things start to change...Metabolism obviously <--and that's important to us, attitude, etc. So I would vote "limited exercise" and the effects of being in or out of shape affecting you now...but that's just me. :whistling

Diabetes tends to slap us in the face just when we have it all wrapped up nicely. Its normal. I think you should keep your same regimen till you start to exercise or therapy, then see how your levels change.
If there is no infection in the body, like a small cold, it could also be a small liver dump thats causing this. This is one of the wonders that is still a mystery to us, diabetics.

I concept I use, taught me my Pompous @$$ of an Endo, is if, all things being equal----normal routine, within reason, the morning B/Gs are climbing for a week of more, I
1. make sure that readings are really accurate, take when 1st wake up then about 20 minutes later
2. make sure the snack before going to bed has enough protein to slow absorbtion of the carbs---
if still running high
3. increase dosage of Lantus by 1 unit, keep close eye on morning B/Gs and if they start running low, then decrease by one unit of Lantus, if #s are OK, leave new dosage in place.

This morning within 5 minutes my morning blood sugars were 151, 139, 146. I don't feel as if they are that high.
Yesterday within 5 minutes my morning BG's were 201,149, 150,122.
And they were odd all day from 160 two hours after a meal to 76 two hours after a meal. They were really all over the place.
I am on diet and exercise only. I don't take any pills or insulin. Maybe it is the monitor itself?
Need a new battery? Should I test the monitor? Get a new one? It is an Accu-Chek Advantage.

My first reaction would be to wonder about the meter, but I'm generally suspicious of the "Easy Answer." To be honest, I've never had that broad a range of readings before. I guess, if I only had one meter (which was my case until recently) I'd cross my fingers and keep checking for 3-4 days; you're not really having serious lows, and if B/Gs were still bouncing around enough that you are uncomfortable, my sugestion would be to go and talk with your Dr. to get guidance-----I did that when I had questions that I felt I had to have answers for Right NOW, except I would go to CDE who I trusted/trust more than any Dr. I've been with
This morning within 5 minutes my morning blood sugars were 151, 139, 146.
Those are all well within the acceptable flucuation range of most meters.

I think if I went from 201 to 122 in the space of five minutes I'd feel it in no uncertain terms so I would suspect the meter. You could try repeating a test within a few seconds to see if you get a very different result but then if the battery is going you might find it needs a couple of minutes to discharge enough to give variation. The bottom line is you need a spare meter to check against.

Do you have another meter? If you have a back up meter then maybe do some tests with that to verify that your meter isn't going. If the battery is getting old it could affect your readings, depending on the meter. Do you have control solution to do a control test?
I have definately found that the effects of excercise take a good month to wear off and when the good effects of excercise wear off your morning numbers do start to creep up and your numbers in general aren't as stable.

I thru my accu-chec away because it was too inaccurate. It would give reading of 30-40 points more than actual when checked against another monitor. It would show me as above 100 as my body went into a low. I now use a Asencia contour as reccomeded by Dr. Bernstein - with his regimine you trule need an accurate monitor.
None of this is too say that you aren't actually running a bit high.

She gave me a FreeStyle Flash.
She also said that my month of being in a wheelchair and gaining a little weight could have caused my blood sugars to be higher. It is weird that they went up only after I got active again.
I was doing a food diary and she said my diet was good.
I also have had kind of a virus thing for the last week. Never a real active cold so I didn't think I was sick, just kind of stuffy nose and my ear is plugged.
She said that could make my readings higher also.
My last A1c in December was 5.1 I get my next taken in March and we will know more by then. She was talking Metaformin(?sp) if my morning bg's don't go down.
