Biggest con? Hmmmmmm...

Being attached 24/7 comes to mind. But I think I am a better diabetic because of my pump, so...

well I've ONLY been pumping for 10 years, this May. I'm still looking for a con...if I find one, I'll let you know. :)

My answer would probably have to be having to inject the cannula every three days (change sites). I know that it's better than taking 5 or 6 shots a day, but the fact that we have to subject ourselves to any kind of injection kind of sucks .

Hi Karen,

Truthfully, I cannot find any major cons with pumping.

Two annoyances do come to mind however, and they are, when I insert new sites, I'll sometimes hit a capillary or spot where absorption isn't good. Doing so can cause a rise in sugars or a wasted set (if cannulas are being used). Additionally, if one's not on insurance, pump supplies can be costly (infusion sets especially).

Other than that, I'm truly pleased with pump therapy, and have had way better A1Cs since being on it. I don't mind the shots, especially when comparing taking only one every 3 (or so) days as opposed to injecting 4 to 6 times per day. :s:

The occasional bad infusion set.

I love the pump!! However, the process is so "auto-pilot" that occassionally I will forget to bolus after a meal. It only happens about once a month and I usually catch it when I start feeling hyper a couple of hours later but this is something I never forgot when on MDI's.

Trying to find somewhere to put it in clothing without pockets, or in dresses, or skirts.. or when I dont want to look like I have an abnormal growth on my hip.. Grr. Luckily I mainly live in jeans, but I really do find it difficult in skirts and dresses.

The only con I have is having to pay my 20% co pay on my pump stuff until I reach my $500 out of pocket for the year (in May or June).

I love the thing.
