You do not need to do extra blood sugar monitoring while on BYETTA. However, since BYETTA is taken before a meal, checking your blood sugar levels 2 hours after you eat will let you know how your BYETTA is working. Following your healthcare professional's recommendations for lab tests and home blood sugar monitoring is important to seeing how well your diabetes is controlled. http://www.byetta.com/patient/byetta_benefits_112.jsp?reqNavId=1.3

I just went to see an endo yesterday and he gave me two months to try some new meds and a lower carb diet. If that doesn't get my number under control he is going to try the byetta.

It is definately okay to post all you want to. (within reason of course) Your enthusiasm helps those that are hunting for enthusiasm and those that wonder about your treatment. It may help someone to decide to do the same.
Glad it is going so well. :top:

It DEFINITELY helped me decide to take a look at it. I just got off of the phone with the nurse for my Dr. and she is going to ask my Dr. about this and call me back. I forgot the name of the med and she knew it right off the bat what I was talking about so I know my Dr. has knowledge...I hope she let's me go on it.
Thanks for posting this stuff, Hillbilly...this has helped me make a decision to ask!

I am getting ready to start the byetta. I just got my first rx for the 5mcg filled.
I am currently taking 850 mg metformin x2 per day. Will stay with this dose and add byetta. I hope I have good luck. I am nervous about the needles..but since it is a pen type and I have heard it is smaller then the needles used to check BS with my meter I think I will be ok.
I am scared tho.
My Dr was very stern about me eating as soon as I take the shot and not to wait any time at all!
I sent off for the travel kit from Byetta because I do travel alot. I hope it comes soon.

Hey nuf...
I just started on the spit yesterday as well...the needle is so small you dont even feel it. I have the 1/2 inch one and I dont even know it is in unless I look at it...so there are no worries there for you. As for the eating, you have an hour after you take it to eat something but the sooner you eat, the less nausea you will have according to my Dr.

Thanks for letting me know about the needles....
I need to wait untill the script arrives form my mail in pharmecy. I need more needles. The 5 mcg script was free but it only contained 5 needles and it will take longer then that for the script I mailed it to get filled. SO I will wait. in the meantime I will get to my Diabetes councilor and she will help me learn to use the medication.
