Cosmo or Animas 1250?

I've been wearing an Animas 1000 for 4 years, and I have been extremely pleased. Ready to get a new pump, and I am intrigued by the Cosmo. Does anyone have a strong opinion about which is better, and why?

I have both the Animas and Cozmo, and each pump has excellent features, are very durable and possess many other assets. It truly depends on personal preference, but here's a list of some pros/cons about each (Please note, these are solely based on personal experience and fellow user comments).

Deltec Pros:

1. Very customizable & quite user friendly
2. Basal delivery can be changed anywhere from over 1 to 5 minutes span
3. Comes with Freestyle Flash meter that attaches to back of pump
4. Free upgrades provided (at least currently)
5. Cool colors available (purple, blue & slate grey)
6. Can enter emergency info. (only works with "auto-off" feature enbled)
7. Offers a variety of bolus options (Standard, extended, combination), and IOB feature
8. Can use almost Any luer-lock (standard) infusion set, Not proprietary
9. Decent battery life
10. Sturdy pump
11. Excellent customer service
12. Large display screen
13. Can set reminders to check BG's, bolus reminders as well
14. Can change Insulin to sugar factor and other features (I.e. IOB), "on the fly"
15. Has time and current insulin rate on "screen saver"
16. Can correct for high sugars based on user determined input of Insulin to sugar ratios (I.e. how many points will one unit of insulin decrease blood sugar)
17. 3ml Reservoir (good for users who require more insulin)
18. Working with Abbott to make a continuous glucose monitor

Deltec (Smith Medical) Cons:

1. Battery life not necessarily as long as Animas IR-1200 (unless you find & use AAA Lithium)
2. Meter occasionally gives errors (may have been strip issues, as it now hardly ever happens)
3. Users may feel "locked" into using one brand of monitor (if used)
4. No remote for pump (not a big deal, though)

Animas IR-1250 Pros:

1. Smallest pump, easy to handle and use
2. Large display screen, very easy to read
3. Can use almost any Luer-lock infusion set
4. Often comes with free products and/or accessories
5. Really Cool color (& custom) covers
6. The 1250 has alarms that can be customized - Cool for kids of Any age
7. Has a variety of bolus options (like the Cozmo), and Insulin On Board feature (IOB)
8. Can set BG reminders
9. Can download up to 500 foods from food data base to pump and their carb amounts
10. Very durable, sturdy
11. Animas working on closed-loop system and implantable blood meter
12. Excellent customer service
13. Best battery life of all pumps on market
14. Not locked into using one brand of meter
15. Interest-free Payment plans available
16. Display Backlight can be turned on/off at user's discretion
17. Contrast can be darkened for users who have vision problems
18. Working with DeBiotech on Micro-Pump (due to be released next year -by approx. late 07)
19. Recently joined with Lifescan & Johnson & Johnson

Animas cons:

1. Users must pay for upgrades (not expensive, but more than Cozmo, which is currently free)
2. 2ml reservoir may not last as long, depending on user's daily insulin intake
3. No meter to attach to pump or remote (not a big deal, though)
4. There have been some complaints from users about stinging at the sites (due to insulin delivery being "too swift" - not too much insulin, just too quick of a delivery)

These were just some of the things I could think of (as experienced by myself & others). Both are great pumps and no matter which company you go with, you're sure to be pleased. :thumbsup:

Just like Dewey said, it's really personal preference between those 2. I chose the Animas because it was more business like, and most people just think it's a cell phone. I have to wear a white collar uniform,(shirt and tie) for work, so it was a big plus.

The batteries last forever in my pump! I change mine about every 6-8 months. and then it's only 1-AA instead of the 3 watch batteries I used to have in my MM-508.

The biggest "extra" reason to go with an Animas these days is the fact that they are now giving each purchaser a free I-pod Nano along with the instructional Mp3 files on how to use it. I purchased my IR1250 about a year ago and they weren't doing that back then.

I just got my pump 11 days ago, are you sure they are still doing this? No one from Animas mentioned this promotion and they did not include an I-pod. I did get my pump through insurance.

It means plenty to me! :) We have 2 iPods in the house. My 40GB and my wife's 6GB Mini. Love 'em! Except for the scratching issue, the Nano is tres cool.

Even though they might not be giving iPod Nanos away (currently), Animas often has specials where they provide free items to go along with the purchase. I got a One Touch UltraSmart meter with purchase. :thumbsup:

before i came to this site i only had heard of the Cozmo and MM pumps. so i based my opinions off of those. then i signed up on this forum and found out about the others after i already got my cozmo. knowing what i know about all the pumps now i'd still choice my blue cozmo.
