View Full Version : Synthroid users...Do you suffer from "Liver Dumps"?

Thinking aloud here...I don't seem to suffer from liver dumps like some diabetics do. I also don't really get anything approaching "dawn phenomenon" or the Somogyi effect. But, I have noticed occasionally that if I take my synthroid in the mornings with nothing else to eat, a couple hours later my blood sugars are high as a kite.

So I was wondering if any other members here who also have hypothyroid get "liver dumps" or suffer from DP?

I'm on the max dosage of Synthroid and don't seem to have the same problem as yourself. Sorry :)

Are you saying you DO or DO NOT suffer from "liver dumps"?

I am saying that I do NOT suffer from "liver dumps" (let me qualify that) in the mornings. I do have a problem with "liver dumps" when I exercise but that isn't what you were asking :)

Yeah, I'm going to get to the exercise part later. LOL.

Duck, are you taking real synthroid or a generic like levothyroxin(sp?) The pharmacy recently messed up my refill and gave me the generic and I had the same problem you are describing plus some other side affects like rapid heart beat and chest pain.
I do have dawn phenomena, being a morning person (hey! wasn't I the one that discovered the connection?) DP may start at 3:00 or 4:00am but for me doesn't really kick in until I get out of bed. Which is when I take my synthriod....so maybe you are onto something.

If I remember right, you are the one who made the connection with DP and being a morning person, yes. :proud:

Right now I am back on real Synthroid, and if I take it in the AM on an empty stomach, it seems to crank my sugars up. My last endo told me I was wrong (one of the reasons I don't see him anymore) when I reported that side effect.

Hmmmmm...So do you "liver dump" as well in the day? I cannot think of any time I really "liver dump" at all, so I guess what I am trying to do is figure out why I am different than some others here...
