Well I go to a new gp tomoro and I have hopes of getting a better regiment going, the lantus alone doesn't allow for much flaxability. I'm hoping to go MDI. I hope this doctor is open to sugestions and allows for me to be invovled in my care. My old doc doesn't know yet because I haven't met this one and don't know if it's a good match. Switching docs here in Nova Scotia isn't easy to do, they are hard to come by so I hope it goes well. Anyways, the biggest thing will be how up to date this doc is about diabetes care and management and how open minded she is. Anyways, I just wanted to share with my dfamily. Thanks

Liz,
I wish you the best and I hope you can let us know how it went. Just go in with a concerned vibe and simply imply that you feel this would be so mcuh better for you.;)

liz32,
Good Luck. That's exactly what I'm in the process of doing.
The best PCP I've ever had decided to join Drs. Without Borders, I've been on a search for almost a year now for new PCP----I go and meet with the new one next Thursday.
>>>I am really keeping my fingers crossed.<<<
The last one I had was an absolute BoZo and he KNEW he was personally related to God.

That's so funny becuase when I went to the pediatritian (she's excellent) I thanked her for being "normal". she looked at me funny and asked what I meant. I told that she acted and talked like a normal person and didn't have the "god" complex. She laughed, she knew exactly what I meant and she agreed that alot of docs have that affliction. Let me know if you have any luck with getting a new doc.
I really feel that this is the best managment for me becuase I'm a very busy person and need something more flexable. Besides, they had me doing a variation of mdi when I was pregnant and I didn't have any clue what I was doing and now I know more than I thaught possible about diabets and I'm diciplined enough to have an a1c of 5.8. I think that that has earned me at least the right to try for myself. I'll let ya know how it goes and you can let us know how it goes for you.

Exactly right.
We're the ones who know our disease better than any Dr.
I am going to find another one that treats me like a partner in this battle with Diabetes, not a child who has to be led around by the hand.

You're speaking my language! Someitmes, I feel like the idiot child who "needs to trust those who know better". Yes, I realized that they know more about medicine but I know me. Like I said, I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I was pregnant so it's not like I could do worse. Aaaagghh! Finding a good doc is hard. I hope you can find one hwo treats you like a partner...I hope that's what I find tomoro. If not, the search will go on.

I do believe that I got a good one this time.
She's the first PCP who actually listened to me and addressed all my concerns in over a year.
liz32, I hope your new one turns out as good as mine seems.

yep, it's like a load is taken off even if they really can't spend much time with you, it's important Knowing that they are there if needed.

Best of luck with the new doc. Having a good relationship with your doctor has so many benefits for your health and well-being--one of the best of which is not dreading the appointments. I hope the search goes well.
It is really tough getting a new doctor in Canada. I had to wait one year to first get accepted into my family doctor's very busy practice in Victoria when I was a teenager and now I make sure that I go back to see her everytime I go home--just to keep my place (and get a few tests that are more difficult to get here); however, once in, I was usually able to make appointments with her with less than a week's notice. I don't know what I will do when she retires. Gosh.
Good luck.

I SO am in agreement :dito: :dito: :dito:
It is essential to have a good doctor at your side when managing this disease. I started off with an excellent Endo @ dx, but he left the practice. I was devastated when he left :bawling:, b/c I know how difficult it can be finding good medical support. From that point, I tried another doctor in that practice, but it just wasn't the same :thumpdown. He did have the whole "GOD" complex, and that just didn't fly (though I think he did know what he was talking about). Currently, I'm seeing a new doctor who took my favorite's place. Judgement is still out on him...I think he's very personable, but as Diabetes goes, I'm not sure. Guess we'll see.
Best of luck, LIZ :top:

Thanks guys! It's so encouraging to know with confidence that your doctor knows whats going on and is open minded enough to listen to your concerns and is willing to work with you. The best thing is that I'm able to get an appointment in under 2 days! At my old doc it was a minimum of 4 weeks at best! That's no way to live when you have a chronic condition. I hope all of you are able to find an excellent doc where you are.
Well, I'm off for a girls saturday morning breakfast out! It should be lots of fun! Have a great weekend!

I've been with the same doctor since I was diagnosed in 1999. I just love the guy because he treats me like a person, not like a patient and believe me, there's a difference... He keeps an eye on my weight, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, diet, exercise and that stuff. We also talk about movies and books. I ask about his daughter, he asks about my dad...you get the picture. Bottom line is I'm in really good health thanks to him and I'm really lucky to have such a doc.
