What is your total daily basal? I see so many people that post that their total daily insulin (bolus included) is only around maybe 50 units. Mine is around 70-75-ish. My total daily basal is 33.01. Also, how are you keeping your daily total down so low? Just curious. Thanks!

What is your total daily basal?

35.7 units a day

However for some reason over the past few weeks my Total daily insulin intake has shot up to 120 to 150 units a day. It was 70 to 100

My basal is 34.21 units a day and I intake around 50-65 units total per day.

The intake mainly differs if I work and eat breakfast that day, since breakfast can be upwards of 15 units since I have a 1:6 insulin:carb ratio then. If I skip breakfast, I go to my 1:19 ratio.

Here are my last 10 days worth of total insulin (not including today):
57.4
54.4
56.6
57.3
65.9
59.9
49.4
57.7
52.2
64.3

I take a total of 35 units of insulin a day (including basal and bolus- basal alone 22.5 units) and yet I'm still not where I would like weight wise, how aggravating .

My MDI included 20 units Lantus as basal, and 20-25 units Humalog for meals and corrections, for a daily total of 40-45 units.

With my first couple days on the pump, my total daily basal is 16.8 (.7/hr). My total daily bolus is 14-16 (temporarily) because I just started pumping and am trying to avoid large swings in BG while I figure this out.

I usually eat three meals and no snacks. My Insulin:Carb ratio is 1:10, and my ISF for corrections is 1:40 except overnight when it is 1:80.

cheers,
j

Have you been doing well with an unbalanced ratio like that? If it works, hey that's the name of the game.

that explains why it's working! My ratio is way off when I eat too much. When I eat sensibly I can hit the 40-50% basal to bolus ratio, like a "good" pumper should. <g>

I use an interesting coktail on insulins, so I am not sure how to answer this. Clearly, the Lantus (8 units) and NPH (8 units) are basal. Regular is a short acting insulin. But I consider the morning Actrapid (7 units) to be basal, especially as I don't have any carbs for breakfast and the main purpose of the shot is to deal with the DP. So of the total daily dose of 33 units, 23 are basal and 10 are bolus. The relatively low bolus is because a restricted carb diet.

Cheers,

Mark

Basal: 16 units
Boluses: ~20-22 units total for an average day's worth of meals
Total Daily Dose: 36-38 units

Can't say why my insulin requirements are on the lower side, in fact, they've been reduced quite a bit over the years. Could be my exercising. :dontknow:

A quick rule is your Basil should be about 1/2 of your total daly insulin. Mine is about 25 units for basil and 55 units total.

Body size and muscle tone are a factor for the basal, and perhaps, gender.
The biggest additional factor for bolus is the amount of carbs consumed. If you were a Type II, insulin resistance would also be important.
Sickness and/or stress will affect both.

yup, that's a good basal/bolus ratio. (I think basil is a spice, isn't it? <VBG> )
