hairstyling chemicals and type I

It is probably just a coincidence, but my sons mom is a hairstylist, both he and his mom are type I. A friend of mine who is also a hairstylist has a diabetic daughter. I was wondering if anybody else noticed anything like this.

WOW now that is a first. I am a type 1 and have been diabetic for 34 years and I am a retired hairdresser. But, I was 17 when diagnosed and was in college then. I didn't go to beauty school until I was 20.
Don't know about the chemicals but feel that inhaling hairspray and the smells from perms, products couldn't help the lungs.
I have often wondered if a chemical does destroy something in the pancreas. So many "babies" are being diagnosed and it seems people of all ages are affected.

It does seem strange, but of the 3 type 1 diabetics I have met, that seems to be the only thing they have in common. A lot of people use hair products, but hairdressers would have the most contact with them. Maybe the same chemicals are found elsewhere. It would be interesting to know what parents of diabetics did for a living before their kids were born. Maybe there is some kind of connection.

Now that is interesting. That just reminds me, when I was in pump class, there was a person whose doctor was at a university med center. The researchers told him there that in families with a genetic link to diabetes that if a daughter is born and develops diabetes-the genetic link comes from the father. If a son is born and develops diabetes-the genetic link comes from the mother. I do not know how they came to this conclusion or even who did the research and it could be hearsay but I thought it was interesting.
But in my family. NO parentor grandparent had the disease. I have type 1 diabetes. All in my family have type 1. My brother has diabetes. My other brother does not have diabetes, His daughter does. My sister does not have diabetes. Her daughter does.
My mother did not work-was a housewife.
My father was a mortician.
My one brother who has diabetes was in the army but worked in an office his intire life. His wife was a teacher.
My other brother traveled the world with his family. His wife was a church organist. (He was in the service)
My sister is a nurse and her husband was a TV announcer.
I am unable to have children so can't help there.
I think that same question boggles scientists.

I also met a hairstylist who has diabetes. I never thought of any link before.

I am the only diabetic in my family. I'm Type I. No one else in my family has either type.

Wow This is Wierd Me And My Sister Are The Only Diabetics in My Family And Guess What My Mom Was A Hairdresser did it in the Downstairs. I dont know about a link but it does make u think.

My aunt was a Hairdresser too!!

there is only my brother and i in our family and we both have type 1 diabetes. there is no other family members with it.
on my mother side of the family there is type 2 diabetes which hits the women when they are in their 60s.
