Penny

My doctor said to take my pen shot no more than 5 to 10 minutes before I eat a meal. A few times, I remember it in the middle of eating a meal. I then stopped and tested, then took my shot. I haven't noticed a problem with this, but just wondered if it could cause a problem I was at 160, when I tested after eating a part of a chicken thigh, and one perogie (sp?), and a few bites of a salad. But I may have been high before I started, as I had a late snack.

Studies I've read show that fast acting insulin after the meal has only very little effect on B/G. That is, they show that your B/G might run 10/15--.5/.8 higher than if injected before you eat.
Keep in mind that pumpers and others of us have to bolus extra so, it's prolly not an important thing.
I think the main thing he might be worried about is taking too long BEFORE you eat and then you risk going low, cause it kicks in (starts acting) within 15-30 minutes.
