i dont know about you. im just getting back into control with my diabetes (diag age 9) ... it just so happened that i got:
hyperthyroidism (diag age 17),
bulimia (diag age 18),
and depression (diag age 19)..
that came along with this strange disease... the combination of all these caused me to get very very sick, be in the hospital quite a few times.. including thyroid removal surgery to correct the hyper.... as of a month ago mine was 19.5.
it scared me cause i usually felt fine... but the doc said it was the highest they have seen.

Yeah, 19.5 is very high. That means your average BG is around 20mmol/l, which presumably means you've also spent a fair amount of time higher than that. Hope you can bring that back under control soon.

Wow, Becky...sounds like you have been through a lot. I don't think you need anyone to tell you that your A1c is high-I'm sure you are well aware of that. But, saying that, I think that means that with a little work and determination, you'll be seeing a lot of improvement.
My highest, aside from dx (not sure what that was), was an 8.1. I wasn't very happy about that, butt during that time in my life i was having a lot problems with my pump and my infusion sets. Things have improved from there and my most recent A1c was a 6.9, but I am continuing to work on it and bring it down.
Hope that things start improving for you- hang in there ;)

An A1c of 19.0 calculates to a BS of 520/mg or 28.9/mmo and a
19.4 calculates to a BS of 527.9/mg or 29.3/mmo
Becki..........what changes did your doctor make in order to help you get your A1c down considerably? The highest A1c I've had was a 10.9 when I was first diagnosed. I felt like ****, so I can just imagine how you must feel. My last A1c was a 6.5, up from a 6.3 and a 6.0 before that. It takes hard work and determination, but you can do it!

Tommy's was 14.9 at dx. Last one was 8.1 in Feb. It has been coming down slowly. Getting a pump this month. Hope to see much better results next test. Good luck getting yours down. I am sure you will feel much better when you do:thumbsup:

My heart aches just thinking about how terrible you must have felt with A1Cs in the high teens and low twenties. I know how terrible I felt when mine was far lower than that.
I hope things are looking up/start looking up really soon and that you find the support you need here and elsewhere to maintain those improvements.
Jeesh. Eek. Ugh.

Heya Becky
Sending you big hugs.
I was diagnosed with diabetes at age two, until I was 16 my HbA1c was always between 7.2 and 8.9.
However my highest was 19.7 almost two years ago when my bulimia was at it's worst. Now I am slowly recovery from depression and an eating disorder, I am currently at 14.3. It's been a lot of hard work and really slow progress but it is so worth it. With my glucose levels so high I was extremely ill. I've been having inpatient treatment at an Eating Disorder Unit for the past 6 weeks and in that time my bloodsugars have gone from permanently above 20 to mostly 4.3-10.5. I feel so much better and can actually function somewhat like a normal healthy 21 year old!!
If you want to chat further or want any support please get in touch with me I know just how awful and isolating this specific mix (diabetes, ED and depression) of conditions can be.
Take care of yourself.

My highest was 10.4mmol about 10 years ago
Since then it's averaged at about 8mmol
It IS hard work - but dam it am I prepared to get it lower!!!!
Becky,
I'm sorry you're struggling with D, and all of those other medical conditions on top of it! The bulimia has got to make keeping your bg in range quite difficult, if not impossible. Depression doesn't help either, for that matter. I can't believe you felt "fine" with an A1c that high. Perhaps your idea of what "fine" means changed slowly over the years? (I know that happens to me sometimes, when things creep up on you). Well, you've made a good first step deciding to get things under control, and coming here for support. Good luck!

Got my tests back yesterday - 9.3.
My white blood cell count was low - that anything serious?
Which is higher than the 8.4 I had 6 months ago...but to be honest - I'm pretty pleased seeing as I've been runnning above 14mmol for the past month!!!
Main aim now is to bring blood sugars down so next Hba1c is lower...
