well i was just givin the new accucheck compact plus....i think im rather impressed with it..pokingmy finger barely hurts. but it uses the same strips as theold accucheck... it kind of looks neat...the only thing these metres lack is the back light. i love this feature of the ultrasmart... i can test in a darker area without needing tons of light

anyone else try the new compact yet?? place your review?

its not that different little bit more quiet. more accurate ,,, and yes the lancet devicce is attached to the meter...but it can be detached..

Is the display lighted this time? The compact is the only meter I ever use that doesn't have a light.

its got an alarm, adjustable hypo, gives you averages, you can download results to pc or handheld pc, if theres a defective test strip it will tell you befor you test, its got infrared window for transferring to computer...unfortunately there is no back light which is one draw back for me

Have you done a bunch of comparison readings to see how it compares to the older Compact? I had some whacky numbers yesterday to the point where I got out 4 meters and checked them over and over again. the compact repeatedly gave me numbers around 180+ while my US was 146-152 and the Flash was even lower. THEN, to top it off I got a 280 when the other meters were reading around 230. sigh. Just when I thought the only discrepancy between the 3 meters was that the Flash reads 8-12 points high in the near hypo range. sometimes it reads identically to the US. I'd chuck every last one of my meters for one that costs over $150 if it's more accurate and consistent. I want one with numbers the size of the Ultra, lighted screen and strip area like the Flash, a compact drum (smaller than the Compact), confirmation beep when it is ready for the blood, results in 5 seconds or less, temperature range 30-120 degrees, etc, etc.

i have had the same problem with the original compact..... (mmol)
onetouch ultrasmart- 8.0
compact-11.1
freestyle-8.3

so far i have tested 4 times with the compact plus and ultrasmart- within .4 mmol

What numbers were you comparing specifically? I've noticed that some meters track another brand in one range, but not another, consistently. If you give me the mmol I'll convert to mg/dl.

ok...that's the range that my meters USUALLY agree with one another, except that the 85 is getting close to value that my US and Flash diverge from one another. At around 70, the Flash more often than not, reads 8-12 higher. Since I take quick action if I see I'm under 60, it is important to me that I get a reading that matches the US.

(I multiply by 18 to get mg/dl--for anyone reading this and not familiar with the conversion factor)
