Just plain weird smell.

Hi, I have a weird smell coming out of my mouth and nose and smells coming from my sweat it's like a chemical smell. I have had this smell for three days now and wondering if this is related to diabetes or another medical condition?

How's your BGs? I wonder if it could be ketones, which you can get if your really very high (dangerous) or on a very low-carb diet (no problem).

I get a weird smell in my nose, have had it for YEARS. NO one else has ever had it like I have it. I can't even explain it, it's just weird. I get it if I eat fried foods but that's about the only time I can track it down.

Actually, smell your blood when you are low, normal, and high.

You'll notice a color and consistency difference, along with a very slight and subtle smell.

Not sure what it is, but I had noticed the same thing.

Also, when you are low, you may not process things correctly, so you could well imagine or your mind could easily overstate things.

I really don't know what the smell could possibly be. :hmmmm: As Seacomp suggested, ketones springs to mind, but I imagine you would know if you were throwing ketones. :nurse: It seems quite mysterious. I hope you track it down.

You'll notice a color and consistency difference, along with a very slight and subtle smell.

I haven't noticed a change in SMELL of my blood (not sure that I have ever noticed the smell, to be honest) but I do notice that I get a drop of blood much easier when I am high and that the colour is a richer red. :lollypop:

I hope you find the cause of the "chemical smell." It is strange that you have only had it for three days. Because it has been for such a short period of time, my first guess is ketones, but there must be some other causes.

Hey, has anybody else noticed a kind of metallic taste when low? :questionm If I am low for an extended period of time, I get a metallic taste in my mouth that takes about an hour or so to go away after I have recovered. I doubt this is related to Rob43's complaint, but it could be. :idea:

Rob43, you haven't started taking any new supplements, have you? Sometimes that can change your "smell". I added Fenugreek to my diet a month or so ago, and although I don't know about my breath, my sweat smells different now.

Hi, I take 9 pills a day and just wondering if all diffient drugs are not mixing well with my eating habits. I have been eating alot of homemade Italian foods here lately. I have friend that is a Italian chef from New York and I just cann't stop eating his cooking. I'm going to test my Urine for ketosis and I will get back to you all later.

Maybe it's the garlic in the Italian food. Garlic is reknowned for being excreted in the breath and perspiration.

I have a odor on my body that smells like vinegar my dr told me that it is from the diabetes. when my levels are high and I start to sweat you can smell it. I asked was there anything i can do about it and he my endo dr said no. said its from high levels.

Sometimes I notice a sour smell in my urine. For a long time I thought it was some of my medications, but I take them every day and the odor isn't always there. I started keeping track and it only seems to happen when I am very high. I had the problem with having an odor in my nose, years ago. My doctor said it was from the iron that was in my daily vitimin, I quit taking it and the odor was gone, started them again and it came back, also sometimes have an iron taste in my mouth when I take the vitimin. None of this is too big a problem, just annoying.

Metformin will give you a metallic taste in your mouth. I find that when I am high at night I can smell something in the air in the bedroom. Not fruity like ketoacidosis but more like nail polish remover. I notice it more when I was on a higher dose of metformin, not so much now that I am on insulin and halved the metformin.

Hi, I have checked my Urine for ketosis and it's comes back as negitive. I take 2000 mgs of metformin a day and this might be why the smell I don't really no why.

My husband has a lot of weird smells... oh wait... he's not diabetic... sorry...lol

I do get the metallic kind of taste in my mouth... I just thought it was the fact that we have well water.

I really think that the weird taste I have, and the smell that goes with it, is from the Metformin. Yuck......if I don't get those puppies down with a big glass of water, right after I put them in my mouth, it tastes AWFUL!!!! Nancy

Do you take your metformin with food. It's important that you do, otherwise it just doesn't work as well.
